USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Cardinals "plan to pounce" on Greg Holland once he formally declines his player option for 2018. Holland's agent, Scott Boras, said Friday that his client "hasn't made any decisions" as to whether he'll exercise his $15 million player option for 2018. However, it seems to be a formality that he'll indeed exercise it and hit the open market. The Cardinals are expected to be on the lookout for bullpen help this winter, so it's no surprise they're getting connected to the Rockies' closer. Holland tied for the National League lead with 41 saves this season while posting a 3.61 ERA and 70/26 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings.

Greg Holland's agent, Scott Boras, said Friday that his client "hasn't made any decisions" as to whether he'll exercise his $15 million player option for 2018. Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported Thursday that Holland would decline the option and hit the open market. While it may be true that the closer hasn't technically made a formal decision yet, him declining the option is a formality. Holland tied for the National League lead in saves (41) this season and is set to receive a multi-year contract this winter.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Greg Holland will decline his $15 million player option for 2018 and hit the free agent market this winter. Holland faded in the second half of the 2017 season with Colorado, but he still wound up tied for the National League lead in saves (41) with Kenley Jansen of the Dodgers and the 31-year-old Scott Boras client is almost certain to find a multi-year deal on the open market. Heyman writes that "Boras believes it's time for an explosion of salaries for bullpen stars." Holland figures to draw free agent interest from a range of clubs, including the Rockies.

Greg Holland notched his 40th save against the Diamondbacks on Monday. He walked one and threw just eight of his 18 pitches for strikes, but he didn't give up any hits. While Holland allowed a run Saturday, he's 4-for-4 saving games this month.

Greg Holland picked up a save with a flawless ninth inning Friday against the Dodgers. It was Holland's fifth straight scoreless outing since his ugly August run concluded. Mostly, it just seems it was a matter of him finding his slider again.

Greg Holland ended up with a win after pitching a scoreless ninth in a tie game Monday against the Giants. Holland went five days without pitching before throwing a perfect inning down 5-1 in the ninth yesterday. He didn't get a strikeout today, his slider is coming back after he lost it during his disastrous run last month. He'll probably get the next save chance the Rockies generate, though he might not be available tomorrow after working back-to-back days.

Greg Holland pitched a perfect ninth with the Rockies down a run to the Tigers on Monday. Holland's stuff remained flat, but he was able to retire James McCann, Jose Iglesias and JaCoby Jones on 13 pitches. It means there's a good chance he'll get the next save chance the Rockies generate.

Rockies manager Bud Black said prior to Sunday's series finale against the Braves that Holland wouldn't pitch in the contest and would instead work on his slider in a bullpen session, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Greg Holland was not one of the three finalists for NL Reliever of the Year. Expected but Chris Rusin was just as good as the 3 who got it.
