Greg Holland News

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand hears there is nothing imminent between the Rockies and Greg Holland. Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported earlier that Colorado was closing in on an agreement to bring Holland back for the 2018 season and beyond, but a source tells Feinsand that the two sides are "just talking" at the moment. Thomas Harding, the Rockies beat writer for MLB.com, is hearing the same thing as Feinsand. A new deal could happen at some point between Holland and the Rockies, but it sounds like the 32-year-old free agent right-hander is still shopping around for now.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Rockies are closing in on a deal to bring back Greg Holland. Colorado has already been very active on the relief market this week at the Winter Meetings in Orlando, securing Bryan Shaw on Tuesday and Jake McGee on Wednesday. Now it appears the Rockies' closer from 2017 could return to the fold for 2018 and beyond. Holland, 32, posted a 3.61 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 70/26 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings this past season -- his first season back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. The right-hander finished tied for the National League lead in saves with 41.

RHP Greg Holland rejected the Rockies' one-year, $17.4 million qualifying offer. Holland had already previously declined his $15 million player option and is now officially a free agent after turning down his qualifying offer. He really struggled in the second half for the Rockies in 2017 but will get a multi-year contract this winter, anyway.

Holland rejected the Rockies' qualifying offer ahead of Thursday's deadline, Bill Shaikin of The Los Angeles Times reports. After declining Colorado's $17.4 million qualifying offer -- which comes after he passed on his $15 million player option last week -- Holland officially became a free agent heading into this winter. The soon-to-be 32-year-old had another great year, posting a 3.61 ERA and 1.15 WHIP during 57.1 innings of relief, to go along with 41 saves.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that none of the nine players extended one-year, $17.4 million qualifying offers will accept it. Neil Walker and Jeremy Hellickson accepted the qualifying offer last offseason, but it's not a surprise this time around that they've all opted to turn it down. All nine players -- Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Jake Arrieta, Alex Cobb, Wade Davis, Greg Holland, Lance Lynn and Carlos Santana -- should be able to easily find multi-year contracts on the open market this winter.

FanRag Sports reporter Jon Heyman believes that the Rockies would like to bring Greg Holland back on a long-term deal. Long-term deal is obviously subjective, and as a a 31-year-old pitcher who has a history with injuries, anything over a year offers risk. Heyman reports that the Rockies feel that keeping Holland keeps the Colorado bullpen deep, and for most of the year, the reliever was highly effective in that closer's spot. Heyman also reports that the Cardinals and Cubs have shown interest in Holland, so Colorado will have competition in signing the closer. Because he received the qualifying offer, any team that signs Holland will be subject to giving up a draft pick this summer.

Rockies extended a one-year, $17.4 million qualifying offer to RHP Greg Holland. He's expected to decline the offer, as the closer is slated to get a multi-year contract from some team this winter. Holland struggled in the second half but overall had a nice first post-Tommy John season, holding a 3.61 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 70/26 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings while recording a National League-leading 41 saves.

He resurrected his career in 2017, compiling a 3.61 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 70/26 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings while recording a National League-leading 41 saves.
