USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Cardinals "plan to pounce" on Greg Holland once he formally declines his player option for 2018.
Holland's agent, Scott Boras, said Friday that his client "hasn't made any decisions" as to whether he'll exercise his $15 million player option for 2018. However, it seems to be a formality that he'll indeed exercise it and hit the open market. The Cardinals are expected to be on the lookout for bullpen help this winter, so it's no surprise they're getting connected to the Rockies' closer. Holland tied for the National League lead with 41 saves this season while posting a 3.61 ERA and 70/26 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings.
