CC Sabathia    S  Yankees

CC Sabathia came up big for the Yankees on Monday, spinning six shutout frames in an 8-1 ALCS Game 3 victory over the Astros. Sabathia struck out nine while yielding just two runs over 4 1/3 innings in the Yanks’ ALDS Game 5 clincher over the Indians, but he gave the Bombers an even bigger boost in this one. The left-hander walked four batters, but he struck out five and yielded a mere three hits on the night, with none of them going for extra bases. It’s the first time since Pedro Martinez in 2009 that a pitcher 37 years or older went at least six shutout innings in a postseason start. Sabathia would be in line to start Game 7 for the Yankees, should the series get there.

Charlie Morton    S  Astros

Charlie Morton lasted just 3 2/3 innings and was charged with seven runs in Monday’s loss to the Yankees. Morton deserved a much better fate in this one. In the second inning, the Yankees got a two-out infield single and a bloop single ahead of a one-handed, three-run homer from Todd Frazier that just cleared the short wall in right field. In the fourth, Cameron Maybin misplayed a ball into a double and the Yanks cashed in a run on a 15-hopper that barely left the infield. Morton was pulled after hitting the next batter to load the bases and then watched three more runs get charged to his ledger after Will Harris threw a wild pitch and served up a three-run homer. It’s unfortunate that Morton wound up with an ugly line in a playoff start where he actually pitched pretty well.

Aaron Judge    OF  Yankees

Aaron Judge clubbed a three-run homer in the Yankees' ALCS Game 3 victory over the Astros on Monday. Judge entered the night hitting just .129/.270/.258 with 19 strikeouts this postseason and he hadn't gone deep since the Wild Card Game versus the Twins. He struck out on three pitches in his first plate appearance, but he walked in the third inning and in the fourth turned around a Will Harris fastball, lining it just over the left-field wall. Judge also had a pair of nice defensive plays, including one where he made a jumping catch before slamming into the outfield wall.

Todd Frazier    3B  Yankees

Todd Frazier belted a three-run home run and scored a pair of runs in Monday's win over the Astros. Frazier basically just flicked his wrists and one-handed a ball just over the right-field wall for a three-run shot in the second inning off of Charlie Morton. It wouldn't have been a home run at any park other than Yankee Stadium, but we doubt Frazier cares. It's Frazier's first longball of the postseason, although he did have an RBI double in Game 2 of the ALCS.

Steve Hathaway    R  Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks activated LHP Steve Hathaway from the 60-day disabled list; sent him outright to Triple-A Reno. Hathaway had surgery in June to repair fraying in his rotator cuff and labrum, which no doubt allowed him to pass through waivers unclaimed. He's now off the 40-man roster.

Lance McCullers    S  Astros

Lance McCullers will start for the Astros in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Yankees on Tuesday. McCullers gets the call over Brad Peacock, who struggled in his ALDS outing versus the Red Sox. Of course, McCullers has struggled himself for a while now, posting an 8.53 ERA over his final seven starts of the season. That said, he obviously has the stuff to go out and shut the Yankees down if he's on, and manager A.J. Hinch has decided to bet on the upside.

Marwin Gonzalez    OF  Astros

Marwin Gonzalez went 0-for-3 at the plate Monday against the Yankees. Gonzalez did walk and score the Astros' only run in the ninth inning. However, he's now hitless in the first three games of the ALCS. It's hard to believe he'll get benched even for a game, though, given the season he had for the 'Stros.
