Derrick Jones Jr. News

Derrick Jones Jr.    F  Suns

Derrick Jones Jr. made a start on Wednesday with three rebounds, three assists and one 3-pointer in 19 minutes against the Rockets on Wednesday. Airplane Mode actually had to guard James Harden, and it did not go well at times. He shockingly shot five treys, and he unsurprisingly made just one of those. Jones Jr. likely will be heading back to the G League.

Goran Dragic, Josh Richardson, Derrick Jones Jr., Justise Winslow and Hassan Whiteside will start against the Rockets on Wednesday. The Heat go very small against the Rockets. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Bam Adebayo, but he should still see over 20 minutes. James Johnson coming off the bench is an interesting wrinkle here, too. Jones Jr. isn't an add in almost any league.

Derrick Jones Jr. has been recalled from the G-League. This move implies that the Heat aren't confident they'll have Justise Winslow (illness) available for tonight's game, and there's a chance Jones Jr. could start tonight if Winslow sits. That said, even as a starter, Jones Jr. typically doesn't bring much to the box score.

Derrick Jones Jr. did not score in 18 minutes against the Nets on Friday with three rebounds and three fouls. While Jones Jr. didn't do anything, the first unit looked fine, so maybe he stays as a starter. Either way, Airplane Mode can't be counted on in fantasy.

Derrick Jones Jr. is expected to draw another start in place of Tyler Johnson (ankle) Friday vs. the Nets. Jones Jr. started on Wednesday and finished with five points, one rebound, one assist, one block and one steal in 22 minutes. Despite the sporadic starts, Jones Jr. should be left on waivers in all formats.

Derrick Jones Jr. will start against the Bucks on Wednesday. The Heat will turn on Airplane Mode for this one with Tyler Johnson (ankle) out. Jones Jr. was a DNP-CD on Monday, so it's still tough to count on him for more than 20 minutes. Wayne Ellington should benefit most while we should see some Justise Winslow in the mix.

Derrick Jones Jr. started Wednesday's game and had eight points, one rebound, one assist, on steal and one block in 21 minutes during a road win at Indiana. Tyler Johnson (shoulder, neck) returned in a bench role tonight, while James Johnson was serving a one-game suspension. Erik Spoelstra could stay the course with Jones Jr. as a starter again on Sunday, since they continue to win games, but even so his role isn't conducive to value in 12-team leagues.

Derrick Jones Jr. will remain in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pacers, with Tyler Johnson (shoulder) unavailable. Jones Jr. got the start on Tuesday but finished with just eight points, five boards, one assist and two swats in 28 minutes, so he's really only a low-end streamer in deep leagues. Joining Jones Jr. in the starting five will be Goran Dragic, Josh Richardson, Kelly Olynyk and Hassan Whiteside.

Derrick Jones Jr. started for Tyler Johnson (shoulder) on Tuesday and played a season-high 28 minutes and had eight points, five rebounds and two blocks, which were all season highs as well. He should get another opportunity on Wednesday, as Johnson is doubtful, but Goran Dragic and Josh Richardson figure to make up the bulk of TJ's absence.

Jones will draw the start at small forward for Tuesday's game against the Raptors. Jones, who was waived by the Suns nearly a month ago, joined the Heat on a two-way contract at the end of December and appears to be in line for his first extended playing time with his new team. The Heat are set to be without Tyler Johnson (shoulder), Justise Winslow (knee), Dion Waiters (ankle) and Rodney McGruder (leg), so there should be plenty of minutes available for Jones on the wing. Considering his lack of previous playing time and cheap salary, he'll be a risky, yet intriguing punt-play option for Tuesday's DFS slate. Wayne Ellington and recently recalled Derrick Walton will also likely help out with extra minutes on the wing.
