Emeka Okafor News

Emeka Okafor    C  Suns

Emeka Okafor will start against the Heat on Friday. He'll have to go up against Hassan Whiteside to start this one. Coach Alvin Gentry is going to continue to play the matchups with Okafor and Nikola Mirotic, so expect plenty of changes in the starting unit going forward.

Emeka Okafor said going through the G-League gave him a better appreciation for being in the NBA. "Perspective is a blessing. My time in the G League was all about perspective," Okafor said. "I gained a greater appreciation for the grind." Okafor has earned a couple starts in New Orleans, but he's still not a lock to be on the squad for the remainder of the season as he's just on a 10-day deal. It's nice to see him back in the NBA following a five-year absence, but he's a non-factor in most leagues.

Emeka Okafor started on Wednesday and had eight rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes of action, adding three points on 1-of-4 FGs and 1-of-2 FTs. Alvin Gentry said before the game that he'll tweak his lineups based upon matchups -- some nights Okafor will start, while other nights it will be Nikola Mirotic. Okafor's minutes aren't likely to exceed 20 per game in a best-case scenario, which eliminates any potential fantasy appeal.

Emeka Okafor will start on Wednesday against the Lakers. This will be his second start after his start on Monday. Okafor played 14 minutes in that game and he's likely looking at a similar workload. Leave him on the wire.

Emeka Okafor will come off the bench on Wednesday. Nikola Mirotic will take the reins as a starter and this is going to be a matchup-dependent situation going forward. Okafor isn't worth deploying even when starting, though, so it hardly matters where he begins games.

The Pelicans will sign Emeka Okafor to a second 10-day contract, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times. Okafor started at center for the Pelicans on Monday and finished with eight points, seven rebounds and a block in 14 minutes. Okafor earning a spot in the New Orleans rotation after taking three years off is a great story, but his fantasy value is minimal due to his limited minutes. He can be left on waivers.

Emeka Okafor started at center for the Pelicans and played 14 minutes, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds and a block in Monday's win over the Pistons. Okafor was put into action so that Anthony Davis wouldn't have to deal with Andre Drummond by himself and did an admirable job. He's played in three games after taking three years off and while his numbers haven't been too bad, he's not really an add in fantasy. Just keep your eye on him in case the Pelicans decide to use him more than 15-20 minutes a night. If you would have told us that Emeka Okafor would be better than Jahlil Okafor in 2018, we would have sent you to a psychiatrist.

Emeka Okafor will start at center on Monday vs. Detroit, sending Nikola Mirotic to the bench. This is just a short-term matchup move to counter the size of Detroit's Andre Drummond. Okafor is nothing more than a temporary streaming option in very deep leagues and it's anybody's guess as to how many minutes he plays. As for Mirotic, he'll be just fine and remains a must-start option.

Okafor could make his Pelicans debut Saturday against the Timberwolves, Scott Kushner of the New Orleans Advocate reports. Okafor and the Pelicans finalized a 10-day deal earlier Saturday, and it's possible that the veteran big man could see some minutes off the bench for what's been an injury-depleted roster. For what it's worth, Okafor is not listed on the team's injury report, so at this time it appears he'll likely be available in some capacity.

The Pelicans are hopeful that Emeka Okafor will be available to play Saturday vs. Minnesota. It was reported Saturday morning that New Orleans was finalizing a 10-day contract with Okafor. The Pels need depth up front with DeMarcus Cousins sidelined. However, it is unlikely that Okafor, who hasn't played in an NBA game in four years, will be able to earn enough playing time to make a fantasy impact. He can be left on waivers for now.
