Jason Smith News

Jason Smith (calf) will be "fine" for Game 1 vs. the Celtics on Sunday. He played through a left calf contusion in Game 6 vs. the Hawks and finished with just two rebounds in 11 minutes, but coach Scott Brooks confirmed that he will see his usual backup center minutes in Game 1. Expect him to see minutes in the teens.

Smith (calf) was on the court for 11 minutes in Friday's Game 6 against the Hawks, pulling down a pair of boards but missing his lone field goal attempt in the 115-99 road win.

Jason Smith (calf) played 11 minutes against the Hawks with two rebounds and three fouls. He was tested early due to Marcin Gortat getting in some foul trouble. Smith had some fine rim protection during this game and his ability to play both big-man spots is very helpful to coach Scott Brooks, especially with Ian Mahinmi (calf) on the shelf.

Jason Smith (left calf) will play against the Hawks on Friday. He got some shots up pre-game and is calf contusion doesn't sound like it'll affect him too much. Considering how Markieff Morris has picked up five fouls in each of the last four games, this is big for the Wizards. Smith is getting some minutes at the five and he's also done really well next to the other non-Morris starters. Morris' upside in DFS takes a hit here, but he's still in play in hopes he bounces back. Smith is still a risky DFS play, unless you want to bet against Morris.

Jason Smith (calf) says he is "feeling good" and went through shootaround but remains a game-time decision for Game 6 Friday vs. the Hawks. Smith exited Game 5 on Wednesday due to a left calf contusion and is attempting to work his way back. He told reporters after shootaround Friday morning: "Hopefully I'll be to go tonight." If Smith is unable to suit up, Marcin Gortat will likely be asked log close to 40 minutes, just as he did in Game 5. Markieff Morris and Bojan Bogdanovic might also see an uptick in playing time if the Wiz choose to go small.

Jason Smith (calf) is a game-time call for Game 6 in Atlanta on Friday. He suffered a left calf contusion during Wednesday's Game 5 and wasn't able to return. He's considered day-to-day and received treatment on Thursday instead of practicing. We'll have a better idea of his status after Friday's morning shootaround. If he's out, Marcin Gortat will have to play more and the Wizards may have to use smaller lineups with Markieff Morris logging some center minutes.

Jason Smith (knee) looked good in 28 minutes during Game 2, posting eight points, eight boards, two blocks, one assist and one steal. Ian Mahinmi (calf) is out at least one more game, which leaves Smith with an expanded role as the Wizards' primary backup big man. He failed to score in 13 minutes during Game 1, however, and there should be more reliable DFS options available on Saturday.
