Kawhi Leonard News

Kawhi Leonard    G/F  Spurs

Kawhi Leonard is making solid progress in his recovery from the sprained left ankle he sustained during the Western Conference Finals. "He’s done some training, but I don’t think anybody’s pushing him to get back on the floor this time of year," Spurs general manager R.C. Buford said Monday. "It’s a good time, emotionally and physically, to take a break." Leonard is taking things slowly, which is perfectly understandable at this point in the calendar year, but there's no reason to believe that a sprained ankle suffered in May will impact his status for the 2017-18 season. He'll be an easy top-5 selection on draft day.

Kawhi Leonard (ankle) will not play in Game 4 on Monday vs. the Warriors He was never expected to play and was previously considered doubtful. With the Spurs trailing the Warriors 3-0, this could be the end of Leonard's season. Expect to see a lot of Jonathon Simmons tonight with Kyle Anderson picking up some extra minutes as well.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich hinted that Kawhi Leonard (ankle) will not play in Game 4 vs. the Warriors on Monday. "If he's unable to play yesterday, I don't think there's going to be a miraculous healing by tomorrow," Popovich said at Sunday's practice. Popovich added that "it wouldn't make much sense" to play Leonard at less than 100 percent, especially with his team trailing 3-0. Jonathon Simmons and Kyle Anderson will pick up Leonard's minutes and will try to help the Spurs avoid a series sweep.

Coach Gregg Popovich said that Kawhi Leonard (ankle) will not play in Game 3 vs. the Warriors on Saturday. A brutal blow for the Spurs, who need to win Game 3 if they have any chance of salvaging this series. The fact that Leonard has already been ruled out this early on Saturday isn't an encouraging sign regarding his chances of suiting up for Game 4, which will be played on Monday. Jonathon Simmons will draw another start in place of Kawhi. Simmons played well in Game 2, scoring a team-high 22 points. Kyle Anderson will also see an uptick in minutes. San Antonio will desperately need LaMarcus Aldridge to step up and carry the load offensively.

Both Draymond Green and Kevin Durant are expecting Kawhi Leonard (ankle) to play in Game 3 on Saturday. "No doubt in my mind," Green said. Obviously, theses opinions don't mean much, but it's a slow day. Leonard had plenty of treatment on Thursday and he said if he feels good, he'll play. Expect an update on Kawhi at shootaround on Saturday morning. He'll likely be a game-time decision.

The Spurs are officially listing Kawhi Leonard (ankle) as questionable for Game 3 vs. the Warriors on Saturday. Speaking with reporters, Leonard said his ankle is feeling "better" but did not sound overly optimistic. "It's still not ready... I could be feeling way better." When asked if he thought he would be able to play on Saturday, Leonard replied: "We'll see how it feels tomorrow." We should get another update Saturday morning after shootaround, but at this point, it appears we may be heading towards a game-time decision. Jonathon Simmons would once again be asked to shoulder an increased load if Kawhi is unable to play.
