The Knicks officially picked up the 2018-19 team option on Kristaps Porzingis' contract.
This was a mere formality for New York, as Porzingis has been remarkably productive over his first years in the NBA. Porzingis will make $5.7 million in 2018-19. Next summer, the Knicks will be able to sign KP to an extension worth up to $156 million over five years. Last season, he averaged 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.7 3-pointers. If the Knicks trade Carmelo Anthony, KP would be asked to shoulder more of the offensive load and would see his stats increase.
