Malik Monk said he believes the Hornets want him to play some PG at the NBA level. "I think they want me to do both," Monk said. "I think I can do it pretty good." Monk added that he will thrive next to Kemba Walker because he thinks the All-Star PG plays similar to his Kentucky teammate De'Aaron Fox. The Hornets don't have great depth behind Kemba with only Michael Carter-Williams on the roster, but we'd like Monk a lot more if the Hornets move Nicolas Batum back up to SF to open up more backcourt minutes. Unless that happens, Monk may have a tough time making an immediate fantasy impact.

Malik Monk (ankle) said he is targeting Tuesday to start his on-court work. He sprained his ankle in pre-draft workouts and that injury kept him out of summer league. Coach Steve Clifford has said Monk's primary role will be as a scorer, and there's also a chance he gets minutes at the one. Monk has a good chance to be in the rotation, but he's not worth drafting in most leagues.

Hornets sign G Malik Monk. Monk won't play during Summer League due to a sprained left ankle. It's a lost opportunity for Monk to get his feet wet at the NBA level, while the team evaluates him, but the No. 11 pick is still likely to play a substantial role at both guard positions this year. For fantasy purposes, he'll be a late-round gamble in the hopes that he can offer more than points and 3-pointers as a rookie.

On NBATV, Malik Monk (ankle) said the Hornets are expecting him to play point guard "a lot." He is not playing on Saturday and said he sprained his ankle three weeks before he started working out for teams in pre-draft meetings. Monk said he landed on someone's foot to cause the injury. He said he's been getting treatment on his ankle every day and has been around the team a lot. The rookie guard figures to be a combo guard and should be in the rotation, but likely won't have much fantasy value while the starting unit is healthy.

The Hornets announced on Tuesday that Malik Monk is doubtful to play in the Orlando Summer League due to a sprained left ankle. Monk initially suffered the injury during the draft workout process. He will miss the Hornets summer league training camp in Charlotte, which begins on Wednesday. Per the team, Monk’s rehab is expected to last two to four weeks, and he's expected to be ready to participate in training camp prior to the start of the regular season. Although Hornets fans would like to get an early look at him, Charlotte has no reason to rush his rehab. Thus, it would be very surprising to see him suit up in Orlando.

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Malik Monk was one of the most impressive players that he scouted prior to the draft. "The ability to create space off the catch and off the dribble to get his own shot, which is very difficult to do.," Clifford said. "Plus, he can really play without the ball. He’s a dynamic scorer and he’s also very athletic." Monk wasn't expected to fall to No. 11, so he didn't even work out for the Hornets. Charlotte is obviously thrilled to have him and Clifford said he will give him a look at point guard during the Summer League -- he played off the ball at Kentucky and played the point in high school. With a strong offseason, Monk could become Charlotte's sixth man right away.

The Hornets selected Malik Monk with the 11th pick in the draft. If you’re about buckets, Monk is your guy. The Kentucky Wildcat had a team-high 19.8 points per game  with solid shooting numbers: 45.0 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three and 82.2 percent from the line. Monk’s lack of size at just 6’3" raises some concerns about how he’ll do at the next level, especially with just 20.4 percent of his shots coming within just three feet. Plus, there was also some talk of Monk possibly having to shift to point guard to offset the height disadvantage. The Hornets recently traded away Marco Belinelli, so Monk will likely be their sixth man off the bench as a combo guard.
