Markieff Morris News

Markieff Morris said he spent a large chunk of the offseason working on his 3-point shooting. He shot a career-high 36.2 percent from deep last season, so he has a good foundation to build on. Morris also said he's aiming for more scoring diversity and "staying more consistent" overall. The Wizards didn't address their frontcourt this summer other than bringing in veteran Mike Scott, so Morris will reprise his role as the starting PF. He was a top-75 asset in standard leagues last season with averages of 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 blocks, 1.1 steals and 0.9 triples, but fantasy owners can usually grab him pretty late.

Markieff Morris said that his left ankle is still bothering him and that he hasn't practiced since picking up the injury. "I don't shoot at all. I just go back to treament every day," Morris said. "It's not swollen as much but the pain is still there. It's the worst injury I've ever had." He seemed fine in Game 6 when he scored 16 points with 11 rebounds in 39 minutes, and Morris added that there's no way he will sit out Game 7 on Monday. "[Expletive] this ankle," Morris said. "I'm not worried about my ankle right now. I'm worried about winning."

Markieff Morris notched 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two 3-pointers in 35 minutes on Sunday, helping Washington even their second-round series at 2-2. Morris was quiet on Thursday with 10 points in just 19 minutes, but his efforts tonight were huge -- among other things, he helped the Wizards earn a dominant 45-31 edge in the rebounding department. Washington also crushed Boston in transition (25-12) and in the paint (56-38), resulting in their second straight victory. We'll see if Morris can maintain this momentum despite having two off-days before Game 5 on Wednesday.

Markieff Morris (ankle) was sore at practice on Wednesday. He did not have a setback at practice and this is just a lingering issue for the power forward. Morris rolled his left ankle in Game 1, but he was still able to play 27 minutes in Game 2. He's fully expected to play on Thursday and may also have some added pressure on him after he said his team isn't playing tough enough.

Markieff Morris voiced his displeasure with his teammates' effort following Tuesday's Game 2 loss to the Celtics. "We're not playing tough enough," said Morris. "We had the advantage late in the game and all we had to do was just play tough. We didn't have to make shots. We didn't have to get stops. All we had to do was play tough. We let them get offensive rebounds late in the game. Guys just walking to the basket and we're just worried about our own personal [expletive]. It's about the team." Game 3 is now essentially a must-win game for Washington after they dropped the first two on the road.

Markieff Morris played through a sprained left ankle in Game 2 vs. the Celtics on Tuesday, scoring 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. He was a true game-time call and coach Scott Brooks even doubted his availability, but Morris was always adamant that he would be out there. Morris sent Al Horford a message early (Horford injured Morris in Game 1) by tossing him into the stands in the opening few minutes and was moving around well, grabbing six rebounds with three assists, two steals, one block and one triple before fouling out in 27 minutes. He should be ready to go with the series shifting to Washington for Game 3 on Thursday.

Markieff Morris (ankle) will play in Game 2 vs. Boston on Tuesday. Coach Scott Brooks tried to hold his cards close to his chest for the past couple days, but Morris was always adamant that he would give it a go. He looked fine in the pre-game warmups according to reporters from both teams, but there's certainly some risk here if you're planning on using him in your fantasy lineup.
