Paul George News

Paul George    G/F  Pacers

The Atlanta Hawks offered four first-round picks in exchange for Paul George at the trade deadline in February, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN. We don't have any details as to which players were involved to make the salaries match, or what type of protections were on the picks, but it was obviously a significant offer. The Pacers remain in a bind with regards to George. They would obviously prefer to keep their franchise cornerstone long term, but run the risk of losing him for nothing if he signs elsewhere as an unrestricted free agent in July of 2018. It will be one of the more interesting subplots to follow over the next few months and into next season.

Paul George did not make an All-NBA team on Thursday. This is bad news for the Pacers. If George did earn the All-NBA distinction, the Pacers could've tried to sign him to a super-max deal worth $207 million over five years. Now, the Pacers won't have much of an edge to bring him back compared to the other teams. This news makes it even more likely George is gone next summer, so the Pacers may also be dropping their asking price in a trade.

Paul George finds out if he's eligible for the designated player exception on Thursday night. In order to qualify for the exception, George must be selected to the first, second or third All-NBA teams. If George is selected to one of the teams, he will be eligible to receive a five-year deal from the Pacers worth around $210 million compared to $180 million if he doesn't. The rumors about George's future have been heating up and the Lakers are said to be a serious threat to pry him away from Indiana, but other teams can only offer George a four-year deal for around $133 million unless they acquire him in a trade.

The Sporting News is reporting that Paul George has told former teammates that his long-term intention is to play for the Lakers. George was born and raised in southern California and rumors continue to surface that he wants to return there and play for the Lakers. The Pacers will have to make a difficult decision this summer: If George is unwilling to sign a long-term extension with Indiana, do they trade him for a package of coveted assets, or play out next season and take the chance he leaves via free agency in July fo 2018?

Paul George struggled with his shot during Sunday's 106-102 Game 4 loss to the Cavs, going 5-of-21 from the field on his way to 15 points, seven boards, six assists, three triples, three steals, one block and four turnovers in 44 minutes. George couldn’t buy a bucket through the first half of action, going just 2-of-10 from the field, and it never really got much better after that. While George will end his 2016-17 campaign on a sour note, he did have a solid series overall, and was absolutely incredible after the All-Star break when he willed Indiana into the postseason with averages of 27.0 points, 3.4 triples, 7.6 boards, 3.9 dimes, 1.6 steals and 3.0 turnovers per contest on 48.3 percent shooting. He’ll be worth an early-round selection in next year’s drafts.

Paul George scored a team-high 36 points during a 119-114 loss to the Cavs in Game 3 on Thursday, adding 15 rebounds, nine assists, one steal and five 3-pointers in 45 minutes. This is a bad, bad loss for the Pacers. They scored a whopping 74 points in the first half and had a 26-point lead, but the team just had a complete meltdown in the second half. George did not score at all in the third quarter and he was forcing shots in the fourth, but it's hard to blame him for this loss. It's fair to say the odds of Paul George remaining in Indiana long term have decreased after this game. He and the Pacers will look to avoid a sweep on Sunday.

Paul George recently responded to some criticism by outside media insinuating he's a selfish player. "For them to say I’m a selfish teammate or I don’t think about my teammates or I’m throwing teammates under the bus," said George, "I didn’t say anything bad about my teammates other than what they asked that I think my teammates can do down the stretch to help this team win. I didn’t say anything that was even close to throwing them under the bus." Certain people in the media said that PG-13 was selfish for wanting to take the last shot during Indiana's narrow Game 1 loss to the Cavs, which is beyond ridiculous given how incredible George as been as of late.

Paul George scored 32 points in a 117-112 Game 2 loss to the Cavaliers on Monday. The Pacers fall to 0-2 in the first round of the playoffs, but the series now shifts to Indiana for Game 3 on Thursday and Game 4 on Sunday. George logged 43 minutes tonight and will likely be over 40+ minutes in every game of this series. He had a couple of vicious dunks tonight and got some nice help from teammates Jeff Teague, Thaddeus Young and Lance Stephenson, but their defense was their downfall tonight. George finished 10-of-20 from the field and 8-of-9 from the line, adding eight rebounds, seven assists, one steal and four triples. He's been on another level for over a month.
