Paul George News

The Lakers and Pacers have reportedly engaged in preliminary talks regarding a Paul George deal. Reports around the league indicate that the Lakers are unwilling to part ways with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA draft for PG-13, but they are reportedly willing to offer a package that would include the likes of Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick. The Lakers will likely be coming in with low-ball offers given that George has made it known that his desire would be to sign with Los Angeles as an unrestricted free agent in 2018, but there is reportedly some fear amongst the Laker execs that his attitude towards Los Angeles could shift if he's traded to a winning team this summer.

The Wizards will reportedly try and put together a package to trade for Paul George. It's tough to see this sort of deal coming to fruition, as Washington has zero interest in trading away Bradley Beal or John Wall. That pretty much leaves Otto Porter as their most attractive trade chip, but given that he's a restricted free agent, Porter would need to consent to a sign-and-trade which would result in him leaving millions of dollars on the table. At the moment, Cleveland and Boston seem like the only realistic potential landing spots for PG-13.

The Pacers are reportedly angling for two first-round picks and a starting-caliber player in any trade talks for Paul George. In case you missed it, George recently informed the Pacers that he intends to leave as an unrestricted free agent next summer. That may have forced their hand, and ESPN's Zach Lowe reports that the "sense from teams talking to [Indiana]" is that they "intend to move fast" on a deal for the star forward. George would reportedly prefer to play in L.A., but he also wants to compete for a championship, and the Cavaliers have been cited as a potential trade partner. It's a fascinating story to monitor in the lead-up to draft night.

George informed the Pacers organization that he plans to leave the team and become a free agent in the summer of 2018, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Paul George has reportedly informed the Pacers that he intends to leave the franchise as an unrestricted free agent in 2018. George also let the Pacers know that ideally, he'd like to go to the Lakers, and while he hasn't formally requested a trade, Pacers' GM Kevin Pritchard has reportedly already begun engaging with teams around the league on a potential deal; the Cavaliers have already made inquiries. The Lakers might not have the assets to be able to pry away PG-13 from Indiana, and there's less incentive for them to do so if they could get him for nothing as a free agent, but with word out that he won't re-sign with Indiana and he'd like to go to Los Angeles it'll be that much more risky for a team to unload assets now for what could turn out to be just a one-year rental.

Paul George said on Thursday that he intends to play for the Pacers next season. "I am a Pacer. I am under contract and I intend to play," said George at a charity softball game. Nonetheless, expect rumors to continue to swirl around Indiana. PG13 can become an unrestricted free agent in July of 2018, and he has frequently been linked to his hometown Lakers. If the Pacers don't trade him before he hits free agency, they risk losing the franchise's best player without getting anything in return.

According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the Pacers have not yet solicited offers for Paul George this summer. Trade talks around the league will start heating up as we approach the draft, so it's still not out of the question that PG-13 could be on the move. He has one year left on his deal and isn't expected to pick up his player option for the 2018-19 season, so Indiana could risk losing him for nothing next summer. It also doesn't help that his interest in the Lakers is very real. Indiana's best hope of retaining George is if he makes an All-NBA team next season, as he would then be eligible for a super max contract extension which could be an extra $50+ million.

The Atlanta Hawks offered four first-round picks in exchange for Paul George at the trade deadline in February, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN. We don't have any details as to which players were involved to make the salaries match, or what type of protections were on the picks, but it was obviously a significant offer. The Pacers remain in a bind with regards to George. They would obviously prefer to keep their franchise cornerstone long term, but run the risk of losing him for nothing if he signs elsewhere as an unrestricted free agent in July of 2018. It will be one of the more interesting subplots to follow over the next few months and into next season.
