The Cavs reportedly nearly pulled off a trade for Paul George, but the Pacers backed out at the last minute. "Koby Altman was very close to a deal on June 30th for Paul George. It was so close, in fact, that Indiana was about to give permission to Paul George to get on the phone with Dan Gilbert," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "Indiana backed out of it and did the Oklahoma City deal." This report isn't quite as discouraging as the Jimmy Butler rumor because it was the Pacers who ultimately pulled out of the deal, but the Cavs not making any obvious improvements this offseason has to have LeBron James at odds with Cleveland management.

Before the Pacers traded Paul George to OKC, they offered him to the Warriors in exchange for Klay Thompson, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Warriors obviously declined, and the talks died there. Thompson is locked up for two more seasons, whereas George will be an unrestricted free agent next summer. Nonetheless, it's fascinating to think about the lineups the Warriors could have rolled out this season had they acquired PG-13.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Paul George says he will definitely consider re-signing with the Thunder if they advance deep into the playoffs. George reiterates on multiple occasions that winning is his highest priority. For that reason, he's not sold on the Lakers, even though he admits it would be the fulfillment of a childhood dream to play for L.A. "For me, it’s all about winning," said George. "If we get a killer season in Oklahoma, we make the conference finals or upset the Warriors or do something crazy, I’d be dumb to want to leave that."

Paul George has been traded to the Pacers in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis. Well, the days of saying Russell Westbrook has no help are officially over. We'll see what Westbrook can do to try and keep PG-13 in OKC, but most signs from earlier this month suggest it'll be a tall order to get George away from the Lakers next year. For the 2017-18 season, George makes a lot of sense next to Westy. PG was actually awesome as a catch-and-shoot guy, posting a 59.9 effective field goal percentage, so Westbrook should be looking to hit him a lot along the 3-point line. George does lose some fantasy value because Westy's super vortex of sucking in usage rate should hurt, but PG should still have early-round value.

Houston and Indiana's trade talks focused around Paul George are "generally on hold," a source told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. Expect a lot of non-updates on George's future until some clarity is finally received, but this is just another indication that the Pacers aren't quite as far along in the process as their front office would like to have you believe.

Paul George is "still telling friends that he intends to be a Laker in 2018," sources told Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times. We're going to hear update after update on this front until something happens in regards to George's future, so it's important not to get too worked up about the minutia that comes into play along the way. From the Lakers perspective, Los Angeles has no desire or incentive to give up Lonzo Ball or Brandon Ingram in any potential trade for George's services, so the staring contest is likely to continue for the time being.

The Indiana Pacers will hire Chad Buchanan as their general manager, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. Buchanan had been an executive in Charlotte, but now he'll be the general manager in Indy working under President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard.

Rockets' GM Daryl Morey is trying to bring in another All-Star to play alongside James Harden and Chris Paul, according to sources of Jeff Goodman of ESPN. While Goodman doesn't name anyone directly in his report, Paul George stands out as one of the more obvious targets out there, and PG-13 has been linked to Houston numerous times in the past couple weeks. PG-13 partnering up with CP3 and Harden in Houston would make that squad an immediate contender out West, so it'll be interesting to see if Morey is able to pull off another blockbuster deal after wooing away Paul from Los Angeles.
