Paul George News

Paul George was ultra efficient against the Raptors on Wednesday, making 11-of-17 from the field for 33 points with eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and seven 3-pointers in 37 minutes. The OKC3 of PG-13, Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony combined for 81 points for their highest total together. A light bulb went out during this game and George had an explanation for that. "We were on fire, the roof was on fire. I think we had something to do with that," he said after the game. The OKC offense is really clicking in their last five games with PG averaging 23.6 points, 5.4 boards, 2.6 assists, 2.6 steals, 0.8 blocks and 3.8 treys on 52.1 percent from the field. He's rollin'.

George scored 24 points (8-15 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT) while adding five rebounds, four assists and a steal in 41 minutes during Monday's 112-107 win over the Rockets. His scoring remains understandably down from his time as the top dog in Indiana, but George seems to be finding his place as the three-and-D specialist among OKC's high-powered trio -- he's averaging 18.6 points, 5.1 boards, 2.9 three-pointers, 2.7 steals and 2.6 assists over his last nine games.

Paul George hit 8-of-15 shots and four 3-pointers for 24 points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal and five turnovers in 41 minutes of Monday's 112-107 win over the Rockets. The Thunder were able to pull Andre Roberson after the Rockets started to hack the poor free throw shooter late, but were able to simply put George on James Harden, which is a luxury for coach Billy Donovan. George had five fouls on the day, but avoided the disqualification and helped get his team the win.

George registered 26 points (10-17 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, one assist, six steals, and two blocks across 37 minutes Saturday in Oklahoma City's win over Utah. George leads the NBA in steals with 80 on the season, 12 more than his teammate Russell Westbrook who is second. In a league that is flush with offensive talent, George represents one of the few players who provide an astronomical amount of value on both ends of the court. In his first season with Oklahoma City, George is experiencing a slight dip in offensive production which limits his fantasy value. However, his defensive output keeps his value on par with other premier forwards.

Paul George sank 10-of-17 shots and four 3-pointers on Saturday, scoring 26 points with five rebounds, one assist, two blocks and a season-high six steals. "I definitely wanted to bring defense [to OKC]," George said before the game, and tonight he brought his A-game at both ends of the court. He's been dealing with right forearm tightness all season, describing it as a "wacky" injury, but it hasn't cost him any games and he said it's been improving. Tonight's hot shooting is a great sign, considering he came in at a career-low 40.3 percent, and he's rounding into form as one of the league's elite fantasy players.

Paul George scored 17 points with five rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block and two 3-pointers in 40 minutes against the Hawks on Friday. It was Russell Westbrook taking the last shot and George was asked about it after the game. "Russ is as good as anyone when it's closing time," George said. He didn't seem very excited about it and it's fair to wonder if he's OK with being the second fiddle. George's usage rate has taken a serious hit from last year, especially in the clutch. This year, he only has a 20.0 usage rate in the the clutch compared to a 40.0 last season. He's still doing damage in the non-scoring stuff, so he should continue to be an early-round guy.

Paul George has been dealing with tightness in his right forearm all season. George hasn't missed any time due to this forearm issue, and he said it's been "getting better and better." This helps explain his career-low 40.5 percent shooting this season, although he also admitted recently that he's learning how to play off-ball. "It's a big sacrifice when you're used to running an offense when you're used to knowing where your shots are going to come [from]," he said. Ideally his scoring and FG% will improve along with his forearm.

George tallied 18 points (5-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 6-7 FT), four rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in 30 minutes during Wednesday's 107-79 victory over the Jazz. George was able to do a bit of everything Wednesday, helping his team to a blowout victory. While he continues to put up solid numbers, he has been struggling with his shot over the last five games. Over that period he is shooting just 32.9 percent from the field. This is likely going to bounce back sooner rather than later and he still continues to collect steals at an elite level, somewhat offsetting his poor efficiency.

Paul George implied that he needs to do a better job of working off the ball in Oklahoma City. "For us three, it's learning to play off the ball and learning to space and do all the little things," George said. "We have to learn and try to figure out. It's a big sacrifice when you're used to running an offense when you're used to knowing where your shots are going to come." Paul George has struggled to adjust in OKC, hitting just 40.4% of his shot attempts, although he's still been a top-20 producer with averages of 19.9 points, 3.0 triples, 5.7 boards, 3.1 dimes and an elite 2.5 steals per contest. The shooting percentage might not come up much, but the rest of his numbers are sustainable.

Paul George was held to eight points on 3-of-13 shooting on Monday vs. the Nuggets, adding six rebounds, one assist, three steals, two blocks and one triple. George and Carmelo Anthony scored a combined 12 points on 5-of-19 shots, but Russell Westbrook put the team on his back with 38 points on 16-of-28 shots. George hasn't been slumping nearly as bad as Melo, but he was shooting 37.1 percent from the field in December prior to tonight. He still has some buy-low appeal with the Thunder chasing a playoff spot and he's still getting the job done in other areas of the box score.
