Paul Millsap News

The Kings, Nuggets and Suns will reportedly pursue Paul Millsap as an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Millsap is fully expected to opt out of his contract in order to hit the open market this summer, and there's sure to be more than a few teams added to this list as we get deeper into free agency. The Hawks have reportedly begun to put out some feelers regarding potential sign-and-trade scenarios, which hints that the Atlanta franchise may be prepared to begin going through a rebuild. The Nuggets have long been interested in Millsap, and given they can afford to offer him a max deal, they look like one of the early frontrunners to potentially secure the All-Star forwards services.

Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk hinted that he may not offer Paul Millsap a max contract this summer. "We are going to make Paul our best offer," Schlenk said. "Will he have better offers? I don’t know. Do we want to keep Paul? Sure." Interesting. Schlenk recently said one of his top priorities is bringing back Millsap, but he admitted that he might get "better offers than we can make him." Millsap is entering his age-33 season, so it's understandable why the Hawks may not want to sign him to a max deal that could be as much as $205 million over five years. Opposing teams can offer Millsap four-year deals worth up to $152 million, so it will be interesting to see what the market looks like for the All-Star PF.

General manager Travis Schlenk said one of his top priorities is bringing back Paul Millsap. This is about as obvious as it gets. Millsap is going to become an unrestricted free agent and should have plenty of suitors. He is 32 years old, so the Hawks may not want to offer him a five-year deal because the back end of that likely will be a tough pill to swallow.

According to The Vertical, Paul Millsap has opted out of his $21.4 million contract for the 2017-18 season and will become a free agent. The 32-year-old All-Star is arguably the top power forward available this summer and should be able to command a max deal. Millsap has said that he would like to re-sign with Atlanta and the Hawks have made it clear that bringing him back is their top priority, but he could potentially walk with the Hawks getting nothing in return (just like Al Horford did last summer). Millsap averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.9 blocks and 1.1 triples on 44.2 percent shooting this season, but he had trouble staying healthy and appeared in just 69 games.

Millsap is expected to opt out of his $21.5 million player option for the 2017-18 season and become an unrestricted free agent, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "Eventually I probably will opt out, yes", Millsap said. "But I want to be here. I think talks have been pretty good, so we'll see what happens."

Paul Millsap said he wants to re-sign with the Hawks this summer. "I want to be here," Millsap said. "I think talks have been pretty good. ... It's something me, my agent and my family have got to sit down and talk about." Millsap already confirmed that he will "most likely" opt out of his player option and become a free agent, but the Hawks are "going to make every effort imaginable to keep him" according to team owner Tony Ressler. Head coach Mike Budenholzer said he's "incredibly optimistic and incredibly committed to Paul," so the Hawks have made their intentions pretty clear. A max contract offer seems likely for the 32-year-old All-Star.

Paul Millsap admitted he will "most likely" opt out of his player option. The writing was on the wall for this one as Millsap looks to get one more big pay day. He did say he loved Atlanta, but a lot of teams will likely be after the 32-year-old Millsap. He was in what was close to a perfect spot for his stat output, so a change of scenery would likely hurt his fantasy value.

Paul Millsap said he would "take some time" before deciding whether or not to exercise his player option. "These last four years have been great. Can't ask for nothing more," said Millsap. "Now I will take some time, relax and see what happens." He has a $21.4 million player option for the 2017-18 season. However, he'll have the opportunity a sign a new deal for well over $100 million thus summer, so opting out is a no-brainer. The only real question is whether he chooses to re-sign with the Hawks or land elsewhere.
