Rodney Hood News

Rodney Hood said his sprained right knee will take about a month to fully heal. Hood also said that there wasn't much swelling and it wasn't bad enough to require an MRI, so it sounds like he'll be just fine with some rest. Hood ranked well outside the top-150 during his third NBA season, and was particularly bad after the break when he averaged just 10.6 points, 1.7 triples and not much else while connecting on just 37.9 percent of his shot attempts. He also only managed to make it through 59 games, so he won't be the most appealing guy to draft next year.

Rodney Hood has been diagnosed with a right knee sprain and will not return to Monday's Game 4 vs. the Warriors, finishing with two points, two boards and one assist in 14 minutes. The Jazz ruled him out after just a couple minutes in real time after he went back to the locker room. This is the same knee that has bothered Hood all season and the Jazz will likely run some additional tests on him -- he's expected to have an MRI, but the injury is not believed to be more serious than a sprain according to Jazz reporter Tony Jones. With the Jazz about to be swept on their home floor, Hood will have plenty of time to rest up in the offseason. He regressed in his third season, averaging 12.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.9 3-pointers on 40.8 percent shooting. He also appeared in just 59 regular-season games.

Rodney Hood (knee) left Monday's Game 4 vs. the Warriors in the fourth quarter and went back to the locker room. He took a hard fall and was grabbing his leg behind his knee, and while he was able to shoot his free throws, he had a significant limp and was visibly frustrated -- Jazz reporters could hear him cursing in the tunnel on his way to the back. Knee injuries have been the story of his season, so hopefully it's nothing serious. We'll have an update shortly.

Rodney Hood made 1-of-8 from the field for three points with three rebounds, three assists in 32 minutes against the Warriors on Saturday. He did go to the locker room briefly. Hood didn't appear to ask out, he was talking to coach Quin Snyder for one possession on the bench, and walked back to the locker room after that. Hood returned to the game just a few minutes later, so he's probably fine. Although, he is missing some opportunities on offense in this series and it's fair to suggest his lingering knee issue may be back again.

Rodney Hood started the second half of Sunday's game in place of Gordon Hayward (food poisoning), finishing with 18 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and zero turnovers in 35 minutes. Hayward gets one day off before Game 5 on Tuesday, but there's a chance Hood will be asked to make another fill-in start. He made 6-of-15 FGs and 3-of-4 FTs tonight, with a 3-of-5 mark from downtown, resulting in his highest-scoring game since Mar. 29. Hood has battled knee injuries all season and the Jazz can't be keen on playing him 32+ minutes consistently, but it all comes down to Hayward's availability.

Rodney Hood (knee) is a go for Wednesday's regular-season finale against the Spurs. The Jazz are chasing after the No. 4 seed out West, so Hood should be working with a full complement of minutes tonight. With him back in action, Joe Ingles should return to the bench, and Joe Johnson's minutes will take a hit. Hood has been terribly inconsistent this season, and with a tough matchup against San Antonio, he's not the most attractive option out there.
