Stanley Johnson could be the Pistons' top trade asset for this season, according to Vincent Ellis of Detroit Free Press. It's not a firm report, but Ellis adds an executive "narrowed it down" to Johnson being a possible trade target for other teams. Johnson has two years left on his rookie deal, so teams would love to give him a shot at age 21. Perhaps the Pistons just throw him into the fire to see what they have and he does have an opportunity now with Marcus Morris gone, so keep an eye on him as a late-round flier in fantasy.

Stanley Johnson said he's dropped some weight this offseason and he's more aware of his shot selection. "This sounds crazy, but the first thing for me is I’m just a lot more knowledgeable of the shots I should be shooting and the shots I shouldn’t be shooting," Johsnon said. "I feel like I have a better grip on what spots I need to get to, what spots I can get to without trying to force things." Johnson made just 25.9 percent of his jumpers last year, so clearly he has to improved there. With the U of A product set for more minutes, maybe this is the year he can have some consistent value as a late-round pick.

Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said he plans to play Stanley Johnson more frequently at small forward next season. Johnson is coming off a very disappointing sophomore season in which he averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per contest, while shooting just 35.3 percent from the field, 29.2 percent from deep and 67.9 percent on free throws. However, with the Pistons trading Marcus Morris, the former lottery pick has a golden opportunity to win the starting small forward job and re-establish himself as part of the Pistons future.

Stan Van Gundy implied during a recent interview that Stanley Johnson will be a key factor in the rotation for the Pistons next season. "I think now we have a chance to become an elite defensive team and Stanley’s a huge part of that," Van Gundy said. "Whether he’s starting or coming off the bench, his primary role will be to guard the best forward or a big two guard every night." With the Pistons sending away Marcus Morris, the starting small forward position in Detroit is up for grabs, and Johnson will have every opportunity to earn that spot over the course of training camp and the preseason.

Stanley Johnson said right now is his "time to shine." He does benefit from the Marcus Morris trade and now Johnson is really the only Piston who is a traditional small forward. "Obviously coming off the year I had, having the opportunity to play extended minutes and a role that I aim to be at in my career, it’s going to be awesome," Johnson said. The Arizona product didn't really do much with his extra minutes in April, scoring just 5.8 points per game on 27.8 percent from the field in his 26.2 minutes. He's only a deep-league target for now.

Stan Van Gundy said he wants to "get more" out of Stanley Johnson next season. "We were disappointed in [Johnson's] year last year, but in fairness, I think we played him out of position a lot," said Van Gundy. "We move Stanley into a position to fight for minutes at the three and maybe even in smaller minutes at the four where I think he has a great chance to be successful." Johnson spent a lot of time at SG last year, but with the additions of Avery Bradley, Luke Kennard and Langston Galloway, Johnson should be able to spend more time at his natural SF position. There's also been speculation that he could start there, so he's on the radar as a late-round flier.

Stanley Johnson "has a legitimate path to a starting job" according to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press. It's fair to say that Johnson hasn't lived up to the hype in his first two NBA seasons, but he has a huge opportunity in front of him after the Pistons traded away their starting small forward in Marcus Morris. Johnson played just 17.8 minutes per game compared to 32.5 for Morris last season, but he now has a chance to be a 30-minute player. Pistons assistant coach Bob Beyer said he's noticed a "more mature" Johnson this offseason, so he's certainly entered the discussion as a possible late-round flier in fantasy drafts.

Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said Stanley Johnson likely won't play in the Orlando Pro Summer League. After a disappointing sophomore season, Johnson said he would be willing to play in the summer league. However, Van Gundy wants him to head down to Orlando with the team, but only practice. "I think what we might do with him is – and he talked it about when he left – go down and practice with us," Van Gundy said. "[Reggie] Bullock did it with us last year. Go down and practice, but not anything else." Johnson needs to improve his shooting and offensive efficiency if he hopes to crack the Pistons rotation and earn increased minutes next season.
