Seth Curry    G  Mavericks

Seth Curry said he still wants to play both guard positions now that Dallas has Dennis Smith Jr. He said DSJ can also score off the ball and added he'll do whatever coach Rick Carlisle wants him to do. Late in last season, the Mavs opted to give Curry a longer look at point guard and he did have some success in that role before his shoulder injury Although, his best stretch last year was as a shooting guard in February, averaging 16.7 points, 2.9 boards, 3.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.4 treys on a tidy 66.1 true shooting percentage in those 11 games. Curry could be a sixth man for the Mavs, but he could still have value with minutes in the mid-20s.

Lauri Markkanen    F  Bulls

Vice president John Paxson said the Bulls will use Lauri Markkanen to create space for the guards. Many basketball people are taking shots at the Bulls for the way they're rebuilding. Plus, they continue to roster point guards who can't shoot, which certainly doesn't fit with how the NBA is changing. It sounds like they're hoping they can open up the floor enough to let guys like Kris Dunn have better success in the lane -- Dunn can be really good when he's not facing traffic in the paint. Markkanen should be doing most of his work off the ball, so his upside doesn't figure to be too high in his rookie season.

De'Aaron Fox    G  Kings

General manager Vlade Divac called De'Aaron Fox "a true point guard." The Kings are pumped about landing Fox at five and even said they had him No. 1 on their board -- everyone says that. Still, Fox is one of the fastest prospects to come out this decade and his quick hands should help him be a pesky defender to earn some steals. He did most of his scoring in the paint at Kentucky, so Fox is almost certainly going to struggle as a scorer at the next level. He's still a top-five fantasy pick among rookies, but Fox is more of a late-round pick for a patient owner.

Jonathan Isaac    F  Magic

Coach Frank Vogel said the Magic are expected to make Jonathan Isaac earn his minutes at both small and power forward this year. "As he has small successes throughout his rookie year, we’ll gauge at that point how much more he can handle in terms of usage and minutes and role," Vogel said. That means he'll be playing behind Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon to start the season. Also, the Magic reportedly feel they made a mistake in playing their young guys too soon (story in link below). Based on the comments from Friday, it sounds like the Magic view him as a combo forward. Isaac does need to put on weight, but his 7'1" wingspan makes him a very capable power forward down the line. He's more of a protect, so he's a better target in dynasty leagues than re-draft formats. His upside is big time, though.

Markelle Fultz    G  76ers

General manager Bryan Colangelo said Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz together could be "a dynamic backcourt." That means the 76ers are seriously considering starting Simmons at the point and shifting Fultz over to shooting guard on offense. Of course, the 76ers did say they're considering other options, and it's a slight change off course after they were fairly emphatic about starting Simmons at PG before the Fultz selection. Regardless, Fultz should be looking at good minutes as he plays both on and off the ball.

JaVale McGee    C  Warriors

JaVale McGee said he hopes to play for the Warriors next year. He was a cool story this year after he wasn't a lock to make the roster back in October. McGee was used situationally last year and really shined for his brief stints in the first quarter while Zaza Pachulia was out. He'll be a free agent next month.

Jayson Tatum    F  Celtics

President Danny Ainge said his size, length and shot-making abilities were the main reasons the Celtics drafted Jayson Tatum. As just about every GM says, Ainge said he would've taken Tatum at one in the draft. Ainge also said that the Celtics are looking to get some added size to their roster. Jaylen Brown was buried on the depth chart last year and Ainge said Brown's experience will help Tatum, which could be foreshadowing on Tatum's role for next year. Unless the Celtics pull off a big trade, it'll be tough to count on Tatum in October.
