Celtics News

Amir Johnson    F/C  Celtics

Amir Johnson (right shoulder sprain) is probable for Game 5 on Thursday. If not for Kyrie Irving going off, the Celtics may have tied this series with Johnson out for Game 4. While Johnson may be ready to play, coach Brad Stevens may opt to leave his usual starter out of the rotation for this one. If he's not going to play, Kelly Olynyk and Jonas Jerebko will get more run.

Jae Crowder    F  Celtics

Jae Crowder (left groin strain) is listed as probable for Game 5 on Thursday. He suffered the injury on Tuesday and he did say he was "fine" after the game. Crowder has the unenviable task of guarding LeBron James and he's also contributing on the offensive side, averaging 15.5 points per game on a tidy 61.2 true shooting percentage in this series vs. Cleveland. He's almost a lock to play at home.

Crowder is dealing with a groin injury, but is considered probable going into Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cavaliers on Thursday, Chris Forsberg of ESPN.com reports.

Jaylen Brown    F  Celtics

Jaylen Brown (right hip pointer) is questionable for Game 5 on Thursday. He's been a key piece to the Celtics these days, especially with Isaiah Thomas (hip) out for the season. Brown played 20 minutes in Game 4 and he's likely looking at more minutes, assuming he's healthy enough to go. If he can't go at home, there should be more big-ball lineups with Jonas Jerebko while Kelly Olynyk may play more.

Kelly Olynyk    C  Celtics

Kelly Olynyk started Game 4 vs. the Cavaliers on Tuesday and scored 15 points in 26 minutes. He started in place of Amir Johnson (shoulder) and finished 7-of-14 from the field with five rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks, but he missed both of his 3-point attempts. Olynyk gave the Celtics a nice scoring punch in the first unit, but he was also exposed on the defensive end several times. Coach Brad Stevens has been indecisive with his starting lineups during the playoffs, so it's anybody's guess as to what he will do in Game 5 with Boston's season on the line.

Jae Crowder    F  Celtics

Jae Crowder strained his left thigh in Tuesday's Game 4 loss to the Cavaliers, but he said after the game that he's "fine." Crowder went back to the locker room for a few minutes, but quickly returned and appeared to be moving around OK. He was effective on offense with 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four 3-pointers in 40 minutes, but he didn't have a prayer against LeBron James on the defensive end yet again. We'll get an update at Wednesday's practice, but consider Crowder probable for Game 5 on Thursday as the Celtics try to keep their season alive.

Marcus Smart    G  Celtics

Marcus Smart fell back to earth in Tuesday's 112-99 Game 4 loss to the Cavaliers, scoring eight points on 1-of-9 shooting. Yikes. He had nowhere to go but down after his incredible 27-point performance on 8-of-14 FGs in Game 3, but the law of averages caught up with the career 35.8 percent shooter. He made his second straight start at PG and dished out six assists with one rebound, one assist and one steal in 40 minutes, but he didn't make his usual impact on the defensive end in this one -- Kyrie Irving went nuts for 42 points. If the Celtics hope to stave off elimination at home for Game 5 on Thursday, Smart has to play better on both ends.

Amir Johnson    F  Celtics

Updating a previous reports, Johnson (shoulder) will be available off the bench for Game 4 against the Cavaliers on Tuesday, David Aldridge of NBA.com reports.
