Hawks News

Tyler Dorsey    G  Hawks

Tyler Dorsey suffered a right ankle sprain during Monday's exhibition game and he will not return. There's just no reason to push through any sort of discomfort during Summer League, particularly when you have a guaranteed contract, so Dorsey is done for the night. He'll help backup the two-spot in Atlanta his rookie year, but it's unlikely he'll be on the floor enough to make a difference in fantasy hoops.

Mike Muscala    F/C  Hawks

Mike Muscala knows that he'll have some increased opportunity for minutes this upcoming season with Paul Millsap and Dwight Howard no longer in Atlanta. "I think there is going to be an opportunity but there is still time in free agency and time for rosters to change across the league," said Muscala. "It’s definitely going to be a different team. For me personally and the guys who are on the squad it’s going to be a good opportunity." If the Hawks don't make any other major acquisitions during free agency, Muscala could realistically open the year as Atlanta's starting center. Per-36 minutes last season, he averaged 12.7 points, 7.0 boards, 1.3 triples and 1.2 blocks per game, so Muscala could make for a sneaky late-round flier on draft day.

Malcolm Delaney    G  Hawks

Malcolm Delaney said he's spent the offseason working at being more aggressive, doing more around the rim and his 3-point shot. Jose Calderon is with the Cavaliers now, so Delaney is currently penciled in as the backup PG behind Dennis Schroder unless the Hawks bring someone else in. "Hopefully coach will give me a bigger role," Delaney said. "I don’t know who else we are signing but I’m just getting prepared." He's entering a contact year and averaged 5.4 points, 2.6 assists, 1.7 rebounds and 17.1 minutes in 73 games last season, but he's unlikely to help most fantasy owners while Schroder is healthy.

Ryan Kelly    F  Hawks

Ryan Kelly is reportedly ineligible to sign a guaranteed deal with the Hawks this season because he wasn't waived by Houston prior to July 1. "We anticipated [that] ... I was going to be able to [re-sign with the Hawks]," Kelly said. "I’ve got to go out and show what I can do to 28 other teams." The free agent forward was understandably frustrated, saying, "That’s the nature of the business. People tell you one thing and do other things." He could latch on somewhere as a perimeter specialist.

Taurean Prince    F  Hawks

Taurean Prince scored 17 points during Sunday's exhibition game against the Pelicans, adding three 3-pointers, two boards, two assists, one block and five turnovers in 27 minutes. There's a good chance Prince will be starting for the rebuilding Hawks next season, so he could be a nice source of steals and triples in fantasy hoops. During the final 15 games of the 2016-17 season, Prince put in averages of 10.7 points, 1.0 triple, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks in 29.8 minutes per contest.

Jul 09 - 6:50 PM

John Collins    F  Hawks

John Collins double-doubled during Sunday's summer league win over the Pelicans, registering 22 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal in just 24 minutes of play. Collins bullied his way into the paint, did a nice job on the glass, and even hit some mid-range jumpers finishing 9-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 from the charity stripe. Currently, Mike Muscala and Miles Plumlee are the only other big men on the roster, and Plumlee likely won't be a significant part of the equation with Atlanta clearly going through a rebuild, so Collins might get some decent run his rookie year.

Ryan Kelly    F  Hawks

Ryan Kelly will play for the Hawks at Summer League. Kelly will look to impress at Summer League in order to secure a camp invite. He's a non-factor in fantasy hoops, though.

Jamal Crawford    G  Hawks

Jamal Crawford plans to sign with the Wolves, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.com. The Vertical reports that it'll be a two-year, $8.9 million deal with a player option in the second season. After the Wolves spent big on Taj Gibson and are already going to give Karl-Anthony Towns 37-39 minutes, they really needed to fill out their backcourt rotation. Crawford fills a need there and should be looking at minutes in the mid 20s. The 37-year-old guard could actually make a run as the Sixth Man of the Year due to the lack of bench scorers on what should be a contending team.

Jamal Crawford    G  Hawks

Jamal Crawford is in serious talks to sign with the Timberwolves, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. The Wolves desperately need some depth in the backcourt and are dying for a shooter, so Crawford would be a terrific fit. The 37-year-old guard has showed no signs of slowing down, playing in at least 26 minutes per game in each of his last three seasons. He still has to clear waivers before anything is official, but the Wolves may be out in front here.

Jamal Crawford    G  Hawks

According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, Jamal Crawford would sign with the Cavs if they were willing to offer him the full mid-level exception. Crawford secured his buyout from the Hawks on Friday and is now an unrestricted free agent. Multiple teams, including the Lakers, Warriors, Wolves and Wizards, are interested, but Crawford's preference is to play with the Cavs. The issue is salary. Crawford wants Cleveland's full mid-level, which is $5.2 million. However, the Cavs want to use part of their exception to sign Cedi Osman to a contract. Cleveland acquired Osman on draft night back in 2015 and would like to bring him stateside for the 2017-18 season.
