Hawks News

Tyler Cavanaugh    PF  Hawks

The Hawks assigned Cavanaugh to the G League's Erie BayHawks on Thursday. Cavanaugh hasn't been a staple in the Hawks' rotation for more than three weeks, so he'll head to the G League on at least a short-term basis to pick up more significant run. Over five appearances with the BayHawks this season, Cavanaugh is averaging 18.4 points and 9.6 rebounds in 32.0 minutes per contest.

Malcolm Delaney    PG  Hawks

Delaney delivered zero points (0-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and three assists in 13 minutes during Wednesday's 123-110 loss to the Hornets. Delaney finished January with monthly averages of 6.2 points (37.1 FG, 34.3 3Pt, 83.3 FT), 4.3 assists, 2.1 rebounds, 0.8 threes, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks in 19.7 minutes per game. He has not earned 20-plus minutes per night since October, though January was arguably his best statistical month of the current campaign.

Luke Babbitt    SF  Hawks

Babbit had two points (1-1 FG) in four minutes during Wednesday's 123-110 loss to the Hornets. Babbit has been a healthy scratch in 13 of the last 20 games, seeing double-digit minutes just twice since mid-December after being somewhat of a fixture off the bench prior to that point. Given the team's depth of young talent along the wing, it should be no surprise if things remain the same going forward, as the last-placed Hawks are focused on developing guys for the future.

Marco Belinelli    SG  Hawks

Belinelli compiled 22 points (6-12 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 6-6 FT), three rebounds, and one steal in 25 minutes during Wednesday's 123-110 loss to the Hornets. Belinelli was held to single digits in scoring in each of the last four games, and he has not seen 30-plus minutes since Dec. 20. January was the first month of 2017-18 in which Belinelli failed to average at least 10.0 points per game, and he has seen 21.4 and 21.6 minutes per night during December and January, this after earning 27.1 and 25.3 minutes respectively in October and November.

Kent Bazemore    SG  Hawks

Bazemore totaled 25 points (8-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 6-6 FT), five assists, two rebounds, and one steal in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 123-110 loss to the Hornets. Bazemore was extremely efficient, going for 20-plus points on at least 55 percent shooting for the third time in the last four games. There was a three-point (on one-for-nine shooting) dud thrown in there against the Wizards last Saturday, but Bazemore has been among the most consistent players on the Hawks all year.

Dennis Schroder    PG  Hawks

Schroder, who posted 13 points (6-14 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), nine assists and two rebounds across 30 minutes Wednesday against the Hornets, played through a sore shoulder in the second half, KL Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports. Head coach Mike Budenholzer said the guard incurred a sore shoulder on some play in the first half, though even Schroder said after the game that he couldn't remember when it happened. While he had his shoulder wrapped up on the bench at times during the second half, he ultimately ended up playing deep into the fourth quarter, until the game was determined to be out of reach. It's unclear if this ailment will cause Schroder to miss any time at this point; he'll have a day to rest up before the Hawks' next game, which comes Friday against the Celtics.

Kent Bazemore    G/F  Hawks

Kent Bazemore scored 25 points with two rebounds, two assists, one steal and three 3-pointers in 28 minutes against the Hornets during a 123-110 loss. He did get some point-guard run because of Dennis Schroder dealing with a shoulder injury. Bazemore has easily been the best player on the Hawks, and it'll be interesting to see how the Hawks view him as a future piece. It's certainly possible he's dealt, but his owners shouldn't be selling him at a discount because of it. He looks like a must-start player the rest of the way.

John Collins    F  Hawks

John Collins scored 12 points with three rebounds, one assist and one block in 21 minutes against the Hornets on Wednesday. He's been a little quiet since last month because he's not playing as much center. With the Hawks reportedly "open for business" this week, that should mean at least one center is off the roster, which would allow more minutes/shots. Collins could really start to take off very soon.

Dennis Schroder    G  Hawks

Dennis Schroder was playing through a right shoulder injury on Wednesday, finishing with 13 points, two rebounds, nine assists and one turnover against the Hornets. Coach Mike Budenholzer said Schroder suffered a sore shoulder on some first-half play tonight, but said even Schroder didn't know exactly when it happened. He had a huge wrap on his shoulder in the fourth, but he did come back out there before it got to garbage time. If he's limited, Malcolm Delaney will benefit. The Hawks play the Celtics on Friday.

Mike Muscala    F/C  Hawks

Mike Muscala started the third quarter against the Hornets on Wednesday, finishing with six points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and two 3-pointers in 18 minutes. Chances are he started the second half because the Hawks were down big. Muscala could find himself getting more minutes soon, but there's really no reason to add him until players start to be dealt.
