Ramon Sessions    G  Hornets

The Hornets aren't expected to exercise Ramon Sessions' team option for 2017-18. Thursday is the deadline, but Rick Bonnell said the Hornets won't pick up his $6.3 million option "barring an extreme change in circumstance." Hornets GM Rich Cho has said many times that he wants to address the backup PG this spot this offseason, so this shouldn't be a surprise. If the Hornets aren't able to bring in a quality backup behind Kemba Walker, we could see Malik Monk play some PG during his rookie season -- the Hornets are going to experiment with him there during the Summer League.

Malik Monk    G  Hornets

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Malik Monk was one of the most impressive players that he scouted prior to the draft. "The ability to create space off the catch and off the dribble to get his own shot, which is very difficult to do.," Clifford said. "Plus, he can really play without the ball. He’s a dynamic scorer and he’s also very athletic." Monk wasn't expected to fall to No. 11, so he didn't even work out for the Hornets. Charlotte is obviously thrilled to have him and Clifford said he will give him a look at point guard during the Summer League -- he played off the ball at Kentucky and played the point in high school. With a strong offseason, Monk could become Charlotte's sixth man right away.

The Hornets selected Malik Monk with the 11th pick in the draft. If you’re about buckets, Monk is your guy. The Kentucky Wildcat had a team-high 19.8 points per game  with solid shooting numbers: 45.0 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three and 82.2 percent from the line. Monk’s lack of size at just 6’3" raises some concerns about how he’ll do at the next level, especially with just 20.4 percent of his shots coming within just three feet. Plus, there was also some talk of Monk possibly having to shift to point guard to offset the height disadvantage. The Hornets recently traded away Marco Belinelli, so Monk will likely be their sixth man off the bench as a combo guard.

Dwight Howard    C  Hornets

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said he hasn't decided if Dwight Howard will start over Cody Zeller next season. Howard is entering his age-32 season and the Hornets have a lot of depth up front in Zeller, Frank Kaminsky and Marvin Williams, so his minutes could be dialed back. He obviously has a long injury history, so that's probably a good thing. The Hornets have committed $54 million to Zeller over the next four years and he has been informed by coach Steve Clifford that his role won't diminish, so maybe this becomes a timeshare. Fantasy owners should move both Howard and Zeller down their draft boards.

Coach Steve Clifford told Cody Zeller he is still a core part of the Hornets. Zeller appeared to take it in stride and joked he doesn't have to play Dwight Howard four times per season anymore. Encouraging quote aside, the Hornets have liked Howard for over a year and he's the heavy favorite to start. Additionally, the Hornets were playing Frank Kaminsky at the five a lot later in the year, so that lineup option may drop slightly. This also affects Marvin Williams slightly, too.
