Jonathan Isaac    F  Magic

Coach Frank Vogel said the Magic are expected to make Jonathan Isaac earn his minutes at both small and power forward this year. "As he has small successes throughout his rookie year, we’ll gauge at that point how much more he can handle in terms of usage and minutes and role," Vogel said. That means he'll be playing behind Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon to start the season. Also, the Magic reportedly feel they made a mistake in playing their young guys too soon (story in link below). Based on the comments from Friday, it sounds like the Magic view him as a combo forward. Isaac does need to put on weight, but his 7'1" wingspan makes him a very capable power forward down the line. He's more of a protect, so he's a better target in dynasty leagues than re-draft formats. His upside is big time, though.

The Magic selected Wesley Iwundu with the 33rd pick in the NBA draft. The 6’7" wing had his best campaign in his senior year at Kansas State, averaging 13.0 points, 6.3 boards, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 treys on 48.1 percent from the field and 76.7 percent from the line. Iwundu also has an ideal wingspan at 7’1", but he’ll definitely need to hit the gym to add muscle to his 193-pound frame. Still, he was able to get into the paint and convert as part of a well-rounded arsenal. The Magic have a new front office, so they may give him a longer look over guys from the old regime.

The Orlando Magic have selected F Jonathan Isaac with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The Bronx native checks most of the boxes for today’s power forward and there’s a reason why he creates a lot of buzz. He’s 6’11" with a 7’1" wingspan, he made his freebies at a 78.0 percent clip, he blocks shots with 1.5 per game, he can rebound, and he made 1.0 trey per game. Isaac does have a face-up game, but he may have to add some size as he currently checks in at just barely over 200 pounds. He is also a little bit raw, so it could take him a couple seasons to get it going at the NBA level. This was the widely expected pick for Orlando, and it will be interesting to see how Aaron Gordon is utilized moving forward.

The Magic will hire Pete D'Alessandro as an assistant general manager. After a miserable run as the general manager in Sacramento, D'Alessandro moved to Denver and wasn't involved in the basketball operations. This move will get him back on track and he'll work under general manager John Hammond.

Aaron Gordon    F  Magic

Aaron Gordon said he's working on 3-pointers the most this offseason. He added he'll work on his passing and to make his teammates around him better. Gordon did have a solid finish from deep in his final seven games, making 2.0 per game on 44.8 percent from that range. That's obviously a small sample and Gordon did only make 28.8 percent from deep last year. Gordon's shift to power forward was a successful one and he'll likely be a mid-round target with upside.

John Hammond has agreed to a five-year deal to become Orlando's new GM. Hammond has served as Milwaukee's GM since 2008, and some of his more impressive accomplishments include drafting Giannis Antetokounmpo with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft and also orchestrating a sign-and-trade deal that sent Brandon Jennings to Detroit in exchange for Brandon Knight and Khris Middleton. With Hammond leaving the Bucks, assistant GM Justin Zanik is expected to be promoted to GM.

The Magic formally announced Tuesday that they have hired Jeff Weltman as their new president of basketball operations. Weltman had previously worked for the Bucks, Pistons and Clippers earlier in his career. He spent the past four seasons in Toronto, working alongside Raptors president Masai Ujiri. "Jeff brings tremendous experience and a team-first approach to our president of basketball operations position," Magic CEO Alex Martins said in a statement.

The Magic have reportedly hired Jeff Weltman to be their new president of basketball operations. Jeff Weltman has served as Masai Ujiri's right-hand man with the Raptors since the pair arrived in 2013 and began the turnaround for the Toronto franchise, so this should be viewed as a very positive hiring for an organization in need of some new direction. The deal is reportedly for five years, and Weltman will be responsible for hiring Orlando's next general manager.

Evan Fournier    G/F  Magic

Evan Fournier hasn't decided if he will play for France at Eurobasket this summer. "Soon I will meet coach Collet and then we’ll see," Fournier said in an interview with L'Equipe. "I will soon see a wrist specialist. And my summer will depend on what he will tell me. My experience with France is not over. I did not put a cross on it. I am not retiring internationally." The big takeaway here is that he's seeing a wrist specialist, so we'll look for an update on that front in the coming days. For what it's worth, Fournier has missed some time in each of the last two seasons with a sore right wrist.
