Mavericks News

Dirk Nowitzki    PF  Mavericks

Nowitzki supplied 11 points (4-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt), five rebounds, one assist and one steal across 25 minutes in Saturday's 91-89 loss to the Nuggets. The future Hall of Famer snapped a three-game streak of single-digit point totals, getting back over the 10-point mark with the help of an impressive 60.0 percent success rate from behind the arc. Nowitzki had actually failed to hit double digits in the scoring column in five of the last six contests overall prior to Saturday, and he remains mired in a four-game shooting slump that seen him drain just 27.7 percent of his 36 shot attempts during that stretch. The 39-year-old has remained more consistent on the glass, as he's hauled in between four and nine rebounds in six of the last seven contests.

Yogi Ferrell    PG  Mavericks

Ferrell generated 12 points (5-13 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four assists and three rebounds across 31 minutes in Saturday's 91-89 loss to the Nuggets. With J.J. Barea (oblique) and Devin Harris (personal) both out of action Saturday, Ferrell saw a starter's workload off the second unit and parlayed it into his third double-digit scoring effort in the last four games. The second-year guard's shooting struggles did continue, however, as he's posted success rates of between 22.2 percent and 38.5 percent in four of the past five contests. Ferrell has encouragingly seen no less than 28 minutes in any of the last nine games, helping him retain decent appeal for those needing some reinforcements at guard in deeper formats.

Dennis Smith    PG  Mavericks

Smith managed 13 points (5-18 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 3-6 FT), six rebounds and six assists across 31 minutes in Saturday's 91-89 loss to the Nuggets. Smith shot under 30.0 percent for the second time in three games, but he still tallied his highest number of shot attempts in the last six contests. The rookie's persistence despite his struggles carried him to his 14th straight double-digit scoring effort. The 20-year-old has also dished out at least six dimes in five consecutive contests, helping him supplement his fantasy production on nights when his shot goes cold. Smith continues to be the Mavericks' most consistent offensive option outside of Harrison Barnes, affording him ample opportunity to continue rewarding fantasy owners with solid numbers in the scoring, rebounding and assist categories.

Harrison Barnes    SF  Mavericks

Barnes posted 22 points (9-19 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT) and six rebounds across 35 minutes in Saturday's 91-89 loss to the Nuggets. Barnes paced the Mavericks in scoring for the second straight night, and he hit the 20-point mark for the third time in the last four contests. Barnes has also hauled in no less than five rebounds in all 12 January games, and he went into Saturday's game with a solid 46.3 percent success rate from the field during the month. Given his role as the team's offensive linchpin, his fantasy stock remains rock-solid across all formats.

Dennis Smith Jr.    G  Mavericks

Dennis Smith Jr. made 5-of-18 from the field for 13 points with six rebounds, six assists and two turnovers in 31 minutes during a 91-89 loss to the Nuggets on Saturday. Make that 14 straight games with double-digit points and six straight with five-plus dimes. Smith Jr. was shot out of a cannon for most of his game as he looked for a few highlight plays, but Mason Plumlee had his number with three blocks against him. Coach Rick Carlisle still trusted DSJ to take a big shot to start the last possession -- Plumlee blocked it -- and DSJ inbounded the pass on the final attempt as Wes Matthews missed it. DSJ will have bad shooting games, but he's filling stat sheets. Plus, J.J. Barea getting hurt helps him.

Jan 28 - 12:05 AM

Maxi Kleber    F  Mavericks

Maxi Kleber scored eight points with four rebounds, three assists, three steals, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 35 minutes against the Nuggets on Saturday. His minutes could be back with 26 coming on Friday. Kleber only played nine minutes on Friday and he's really going to have to clean up on defensive stats to have value. It does make sense to use him vs. Miami on Monday, so maybe he's good again.

Jan 28 - 12:00 AM

Kyle Collinsworth    G  Mavericks

Kyle Collinsworth scored seven points with five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 14 minutes against the Nuggets on Saturday. He has played well when the Mavs have called on him and he should see minutes in the teens while J.J. Barea is out. He's a Hail Mary add in super deep formats.

Jan 27 - 11:58 PM

Salah Mejri    C  Mavericks

Salah Mejri scored three points with six rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 20 minutes against the Nuggets on Saturday. He drew a big offensive charge on Nikola Jokic to give the Mavs a chance with 13 seconds left -- they couldn't get the win, though. Mejri's minutes are starting to trend up over his last five, averaging 16.8 minutes, 4.6 points, 6.2 boards and 1.2 blocks. If you're dying for a shot-blocking big with four games this week, he could be your man in a 16-plus team format.

Jan 27 - 11:55 PM

Yogi Ferrell    G  Mavericks

Yogi Ferrell scored 12 points with three rebounds, four assists and one 3-pointer in 31 minutes against the Nuggets on Saturday. He is going to see more playing time with J.J. Barea now dealing with an oblique injury. Given Barea's history of mid-body injuries, JJB is probably going to sit out for multiple games. Ferrell gets four games this week, so he's a decent pickup for anyone needing a score-first guard in a pinch.

Jan 27 - 11:52 PM

J.J. Barea    PG  Mavericks

Barea will not play Saturday against the Nuggets due to an oblique injury, Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News reports. It's unclear when Barea picked up the ailment, or the severity of the issue, but it will keep him sidelined for at least one contest. With Barea and Devin Harris (head) both unavailable, look for Dennis Smith and Yogi Ferrell to see increased roles, with Kyle Collingsworth also seeing some run. Barea's next chance to play will come Monday against the Heat.
