Mavericks News

Devin Harris    PG  Mavericks

The Mavericks are hopeful that Harris (concussion) will clear the NBA's protocol for head injuries before Wednesday's game against the Rockets, Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News reports. "[Harris] saw the doctor," head coach Rick Carlisle said Monday. "And I believe technically he is in concussion protocol. My understanding is it's not believed to be a long-term serious concussion. But he does have symptoms, And when the symptoms subside, and he passes the test, he'll play." Harris was placed in the concussion protocol after hitting his head on a cameraman's knee during Saturday's game against the Trail Blazers, with the veteran guard's subsequent symptoms keeping him sidelined during Monday's 98-75 win over the Wizards. The 34-year-old was able to get in some work on a stationary bike Monday, but still hasn't progressed to the point where he can partake in basketball activities. The Mavericks will likely see what Harris can do at Tuesday's practice before determining his availability for Wednesday.

Kyle Collinsworth    G  Mavericks

The Mavs will sign Kyle Collinsworth to a second 10-day contract. Collinsworth played a career-high 18 minutes in the Mavs win over Washington on Monday, finishing with four points, four boards and three assists. However, he belongs on the waiver wire in all fantasy formats.

Dennis Smith    PG  Mavericks

Smith had 17 points (7-16 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six assists, three rebounds and two steals in 31 minutes during Monday's 98-75 victory over the Wizards. Smith continued his excellent play of late, finishing with double-figures for the 11th consecutive game. After a slow and inconsistent start to his career, he has now played at least 30 minutes in six straight games as the coaching staff's confidence in him appears to be growing. Despite the victory, the team is basically chasing a high draft pick and so there is no reason Smith can't continue his hot form into the back end of the season.

Yogi Ferrell    G  Mavericks

Yogi Ferrell played 31 minutes off the bench and hit 6-of-16 shots and two 3-pointers for 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in Monday's blowout win over the Wizards. Ferrell had just seven points and not much else on Saturday, but bounced back tonight. He's getting more minutes than J.J. Barea and looks like a hot pickup right now, averaging 13.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.4 3-pointers on 45 percent shooting and 35 minutes per night over his last five games.

Dennis Smith Jr.    G  Mavericks

Dennis Smith Jr. kept it rolling on Monday, hitting 7-of-16 shots and two 3-pointers for 17 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals in 31 minutes of a 98-75 blowout win over the Wizards. DSJ is rolling after a rough patch in the first half of the season, averaging 20.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 3-pointers on 47 percent shooting over his last five. He's returning seventh-round fantasy value over his last 10 games, and fifth-round value over his last five. Hopefully he's setting up for a big second half of the season.

Devin Harris    G  Mavericks

Devin Harris (concussion) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Wizards. Harris is officially under the league-mandated concussion protocol testing, and he will not be allowed to play until he clears that. With him out tonight, his minutes will be divvied up between Dennis Smith Jr., Yogi Ferrell and J.J. Barea. Harris belongs on the waiver wire in all leagues.

Devin Harris    G  Mavericks

Devin Harris (head) is questionable "at best" for Monday's game vs. the Wizards. Coach Rick Carlisle made it sound like Harris wasn't going to play and added that he was at the doctor getting checked out. If Harris can't go, that means we should see plenty of Dennis Smith Jr., Yogi Ferrell and J.J. Barea. Harris belongs on the wire in most leagues.

Kyle Collinsworth    SG  Mavericks

Collinsworth will sign a second 10-day contract with the Mavericks, Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News reports. Collinsworth seemed to seal the deal with Monday's 19-minute performance against the Wizards where he posted four points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Even if the Mavericks decide to sign the 26-year-old for the remainder of the season following his second 10-day contract, Collinsworth will likely only ever see a limited role with the team as an ancillary player.

Dennis Smith    PG  Mavericks

Smith recorded 21 points (8-15 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 4-5 FT), six assists, six rebiunds and three steals in 32 minutes during Saturday's 117-108 loss to the Mavericks. This is the kind of stat line Dallas fans were expecting after Smith looked like a living highlight reel in the Las Vegas summer league. Instead, Smith has fallen further than expected among his fellow rookies, although the limitations of his current team play an integral part in his struggles. He has had a great five-game stretch, averaging 20.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds.

Wesley Matthews    SG  Mavericks

Matthews tallied 23 points (7-15 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 6-8 FT), five rebounds, two assists and a steal in 38 minutes during Saturday's 117-108 loss to the Trail Blazers. Matthews received a warm round of applause from the Portland crowd as he had six successful seasons with the team before being shipped to Dallas in 2015. Saturday's performance marked his third-best scoring total of the season and like most shooting guards, his overall fantasy success depends on scoring production, and while Matthews has had streaks of consistency, he can find himself as an afterthought in several of Dallas' games this season. He does enough to be considered in most seasonal leagues as a third or fourth option at guard, but he needs to have a good matchup to be used widely in DFS formats.
