Mavericks News

Wesley Matthews    G/F  Mavericks

Wesley Matthews drained another three triples on Saturday, on his way to 17 points, four assists, one rebound and zero turnovers in 39 minutes. Matthews has been rolling over the past few weeks, flirting with top-50 value in 9-cat leagues behind averages of 15.1 points, 3.4 dimes, 2.6 triples and just 0.7 turnovers per contest on 45.9% shooting from the field and 83.3% from the charity stripe. This is probably going to be the high water mark for Matthews this season, as his playing time could begin to dwindle after the All-Star break, so now would be good opportunity to try and sell-high on the 31-year-old swingman.

Yogi Ferrell    G  Mavericks

Yogi Ferrell notched an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double in 43 minutes during Saturday's overtime loss to the Lakers. Ferrell also added four assists, one 3-pointer and one steal in the loss, and he tends to play well when given the minutes. As a starter this season, Ferrell has produced averages of 12.1 points, 2.1 triples, 3.7 boards, 3.3 assists and just 1.1 turnovers per game on 43.9% shooting, so as long as he’s starting, he’s worth owning in deep leagues.

Dennis Smith Jr.    G  Mavericks

Dennis Smith Jr. earned a season-high 39 minutes during Saturday's overtime loss to the Lakers, tallying 23 points, two rebounds, three assists, one steal, three 3-pointers and three turnovers. Smith Jr. came out firing in this one, looking for his shot early and often while relentlessly attacking the rack, and he did a nice job defensively against Lonzo Ball which helped him stay on the floor. It’s been an up-and-down season for DSJ, as Rick Carlisle has made him have to earn everything, but this is his upside and he could be in for a strong second half to the season if he can keep playing like this. "I thought he earned the minutes," Rick Carlisle said after the game. "This is a game all of our young guys will learn from."

Kyle Collinsworth    G  Mavericks

The Mavs have signed Kyle Collinsworth to a 10-day contract. Dallas initially signed Collinsworth to a two-way contract back in December, but then waived him last week to open up a roster spot for Jalen Jones. Collinsworth can be ignored in all fantasy formats, as he is unlikely to crack the Mavs rotation.

Maxi Kleber    F  Mavericks

Maxi Kleber came off the bench vs. Charlotte and had four points on 2-of-7 shooting, one rebound, one assist and a pair of steals in 12 minutes. Kleber was trending down in a hurry as a starter, and the bottom fell out on Tuesday as he played only four minutes and was nearly a DNP in the second half. This was the first time since mid-December that the Mavs used a different starting lineup, and coach Rick Carlisle didn't make the move lightly, so presumably Kleber will stay on the bench for the foreseeable future.

Dwight Powell    F/C  Mavericks

Dwight Powell had another quiet game on Wednesday with three points, two rebounds and one block in 12 minutes. Powell was surging in late December and early January, but in the past three games he's fallen off with averages of 4.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.3 blocks and zero steals. Unless your waiver wire is totally barren, it makes sense to cut Powell for another flavor-of-the-week big man like Ekpe Udoh.

Harrison Barnes    F  Mavericks

Harrison Barnes recorded his seventh double-double of the season on Wednesday, scoring 25 points with 11 rebounds in 35 minutes. Barnes hit 9-of-13 FGs and 4-of-4 FTs with three 3-pointers two assists, one block and zero turnovers as the Mavericks beat the Hornets in Charlotte. He's running hot lately with 21.0 points on 52.5% shooting over his past five games, with enough 3-pointers (2.4) rebounds (5.8) and assists (3.0) to compensate for poor defensive stats. Even with tonight's victory, the Mavs are still 7.0 games out of the playoff picture.

Yogi Ferrell    G  Mavericks

Yogi Ferrell started on Wednesday and posted 22 points on 7-of-10 three-pointers, adding four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 36 minutes of action. Ferrell started after halftime on Tuesday to give the Mavericks more "speed," according to Rick Carlisle. "[Ferrell] always finds a way to fit in because he goes hard and he maximizes his minutes," he said. "[On Tuesday] we couldn’t have won without him." It's unclear whether Carlisle intends to make this a permanent change, but that's a real possibility given his play over the past few games. Ferrell is a very intriguing pickup while we wait to find out.

Dirk Nowitzki    F/C  Mavericks

Dirk Nowitzki finished Wednesday's game with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting, three 3-pointers, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and zero turnovers in 23 minutes. As a result, Dallas finished their back-to-back set on Wednesday with an impressive win in Charlotte. Dirk still hasn't missed a game this season and he's been a steal for owners who drafted him despite concerns about his age (39) and the Mavs' likely shift toward player development.

Yogi Ferrell    PG  Mavericks

Ferrell dropped 22 points (7-10 FG, 7-10 3Pt, 1-2 FT) while adding four rebounds, one assist and one steal across 36 minutes in Wednesday's 115-11 victory over the Hornets. A late addition to the starting five, Ferrell did not hold back from three, attempting all ten of his shots from behind the arc and hitting a ridiculous 70 percent of them. He was obviously playing to prove himself Wednesday, and he did more than just that and was awarded 36 minutes for his great shooting. The question remains whether Ferrell will stick in the starting lineup and continue to see similar opportunities like Wednesday's game.
