Mavericks News

J.J. Barea    G  Mavericks

J.J. Barea (left oblique strain) is questionable to play Wednesday vs. the Suns. Barea has spent the past two games on the sidelines with the oblique strain, which has resulted in more minutes for Dennis Smith Jr., Yogi Ferrell and Devin Harris. It'll be more of the same if he can't give it a go tonight, with DSJ offering the most upside out of the group.

J.J. Barea    PG  Mavericks

Barea (oblique) is listed as questionable in the Mavericks' official game notes for Wednesday's game against the Suns. Barea was forced to miss Monday's game against the Heat after suffering a strained left oblique in Friday's game against the Trail Blazers. An update on Barea's status should come following the team's shootaround Wednesday morning.

Maxi Kleber    PF  Mavericks

Kleber contributed nine points (4-6 FG, 1-1 3Pt) in 15 minutes during Monday's 95-88 loss to the Heat. Among the 10 Mavericks who saw the floor, Kleber saw fewer minutes than all but two (Salah Mejri and Kyle Collinsworth). Kleber's role and minutes fluctuate pretty wildly from game to game, as evidenced by the fact that he dropped eight points, four boards, three dimes, three steals, two blocks, and two threes in 35 minutes during Saturday's loss to the Nuggets. However, Kleber is mostly hit or miss when it comes to fantasy, and more often than not it's the latter.

Wesley Matthews    SG  Mavericks

Matthews finished with 19 points (7-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 34 minutes during Monday's 95-88 loss to the Heat. Matthews was effective on both ends of the court, tallying solid stats in the process. He is in the midst of his best month of the season (by far), and the Mavericks appear intent on showcasing the veteran wing in hopes that a playoff contender will make a decent offer. Fantasy owners will likely have to hope that doesn't come to fruition, as his value would almost certainly take a hit.

Fantasy Alarm

Jan 30 - 5:22 AM

Dwight Powell    PF  Mavericks

Powell provided four points (2-2 FG), 10 rebounds, and three steals in 21 minutes during Monday's 95-88 loss to the Heat. Powell reached double figures in rebounds for the fourth time this season while receiving 20-plus minutes for the eighth time through 13 games in January. This is the first month in which Powell is averaging 20 minutes or more per game, and the free-falling Mavericks seem likely to continue feeding the 26-year-old forward ample playing time going forward.

Fantasy Alarm

Jan 30 - 5:16 AM

Salah Mejri    C  Mavericks

Mejri totaled four points (2-3 FG), eight rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block in 14 minutes during Monday's 95-88 loss to the Heat. Mejri remains a fixture off the bench, earning double-digit minutes in 12 consecutive contests. January has been his best month of the current campaign, but operating in the backup center role doesn't allow Mejri the opportunity to post fruitful stat lines in most tilts.

Fantasy Alarm

Jan 30 - 5:10 AM

Devin Harris    PG  Mavericks

Harris had two points (1-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt), one rebound, one assist, and one block in 16 minutes during Monday's 95-88 loss to the Heat. Returning from a four-game absence, Harris made his first appearance since being forced to exit the Jan. 20 contest against the Nuggets with what was eventually determined to be a concussion. To say Harris was rusty on Monday would be an understatement, but his presence was still warmly welcomed given the fact that J.J. Barea (oblique) was unable to suit up for the second straight tilt.

Fantasy Alarm

Jan 30 - 5:00 AM

Yogi Ferrell    G  Mavericks

Yogi Ferrell hit just 2-of-9 shots for six points, two rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes of Monday's 95-88 loss to the Heat. Ferrell has been hit-or-miss over his last four games, shooting 2-of-9 in two of them, but the minutes were encouraging, especially with Devin Harris back from a five-game absence. Ferrell's not completely reliable right now, obviously, but enough positive signs are there for owners to give him another chance, especially with J.J. Barea out with an oblique injury. The Mavericks have two more games left this week, so he has plenty of time to right the ship.

Jan 29 - 11:23 PM

Devin Harris    G  Mavericks

Devin Harris played 16 minutes and hit 1-of-7 shots for two points, one rebound, one assist and one block in Monday's loss to the Heat. He missed his previous five games with a concussion and a personal matter, but doesn't have fantasy value when he's fully healthy.

Jan 29 - 11:18 PM

Wesley Matthews    G/F  Mavericks

Wesley Matthews hit 7-of-12 shots and three 3-pointers for 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 34 minutes of Monday's 95-88 loss to the Heat. He scored a season-high 29 points last Wednesday with seven 3-pointers and is averaging 16.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 3.0 3-pointers on 46 percent shooting over his last five games. He's returning ninth-round fantasy value on the season, meaning he should be owned and started in most leagues.
