Anthony Davis    F/C  Pelicans

Anthony Davis confirmed that he wants to remain in New Orleans and believes the Pelicans can make a playoff run in 2017-18. Davis acknowledged that he had heard trade rumors about potentially getting shipped to Boston, but has ignored them since getting confirmation that the rumors were unfounded. "I understand it's a business, but if I don't hear anything from [GM Dell Demps] or my agent, I don't pay attention to it," said Davis. He also added that he thinks the Pels have enough talent to make some noise this season. "We definitely believe we have enough pieces on paper to make the playoffs. Not just make it, but actually make a run in the playoffs."

Hollis Thompson    G/F  Pelicans

Hollis Thompson is in advanced talks with Olympiacos. He was with the Pelicans in the second half of last season, but the team didn't bring him back when his second 10-day deal ran out on Mar. 15. Thompson was also in Las Vegas for summer league, but he didn't really show anything to suggest he could stick on an NBA roster. Philly fans will always have a soft spot for Hollis for his time during The Process, but he may not be back in the NBA.

Anthony Davis believes that the Pelicans can "make a run in the playoffs" next season. "[A playoff berth is] what we are expecting," said Davis. "We definitely believe we have enough pieces on paper to make the playoffs, and not just make it, but actually make a run in the playoffs. Everyone is excited and everybody is prepared. It starts in training camp." It'll be interesting to see what Davis and DeMarcus Cousins can do in their first full season together, but Davis is right that on paper, New Orleans looks like they have enough talent to make a solid postseason run.

Donatas Motiejunas    F/C  Pelicans

Donatas Motiejunas has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Shangdong Golden Stars of China. The deal is reportedly for $3 million, but it's unclear if it includes an NBA out-clause. Either way, he'll begin the 2017-18 season overseas, so he's firmly off the radar in all formats.

DeMarcus Cousins    F/C  Pelicans

DeMarcus Cousins said his weight loss this summer has helped him feel probably the best he's felt in his career. He said now that he's getting older he has to focus more on his body. Cousins did look a lot thinner in the Africa Game, so it wasn't just #MuscleWatch or something off social media. The Pelicans have some offensive changes coming as they look to adjust their style more to Denver and pick up their pace. Cousins was also bombing treys with the Pelicans and his usage rate held up nicely with Anthony Davis, so he's still a fine pick in the second round of drafts.

DeMarcus Cousins    F/C  Pelicans

DeMarcus Cousins said the game he is most looking forward to next season is playing against the Kings in Sacramento. It's early August, but we already have our first 'revenge game' of the 2017-18 season mapped out. "I can’t wait. Oh, my God. I can’t wait. I’m praying it’s the first game. I just got a lot to get off my chest. I can’t wait," Cousins said on Wednesday. It's safe to assume that Cousins' ownership in daily fantasy contests that evening will be close to 100 percent.

Ian Clark    G  Pelicans

Pelicans sign G Ian Clark. The Pelicans got a bargain on their hands and add some much-needed shooting. While Clark is too small to guard twos and he's likely not going to be a ball-handler, his range will help as the Pelicans attempt to adjust their scheme to be more like the Nuggets. Clark could compete for a rotation spot, but he'll likely need some players to miss time to have fantasy value in most leagues.

Alvin Gentry    C  Pelicans

Coach Alvin Gentry said the Pelicans won't be a "walk-it-up, play slow team" for next season. This isn't the first time Gentry has talked-up pace and usually nothing has come of it since his Phoenix days. The Pelicans were 13th in pace after the break last year, which is a shade slower then their ninth-ranked pace before the break. Rajon Rondo was at his post-Boston best when the Kings were first in the NBA for pace in the 2015-16 season, so maybe that'll help things along.

DeMarcus Cousins    F/C  Pelicans

DeMarcus Cousins said he's confident that a traditional lineup with him next to Anthony Davis can work. "I think the game is actually playing into our hands," Cousins said. "I think me and [Davis] have a skill set that a lot of bigs don’t have in this league, or the league hasn’t seen in some bigs throughout the history of the game." A lot more teams are going smaller these days, and while the Pelicans had success on offense last season, they struggled on defense and posted a 7-10 record with those two together. Cousins has lost a lot of weight over the offseason and coach Alvin Gentry said he looks "terrific," and he'll have some extra motivation as he tries to prove he's worth a max contract in 2018.
