Pelicans News

Rajon Rondo    G  Pelicans

Rajon Rondo got some revenge against the Celtics Tuesday with seven points, eight assists, two steals, two blocks and a 3-pointer in 30 minutes. He's been a bit quiet lately, but is still averaging 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.2 steals over his last five games, hitting 52 percent of his shots. If you can live with the low scoring, he's worth holding.

Jrue Holiday    PG  Pelicans

Holiday had 23 points (9-16 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), seven assists, four rebounds, three steals, and one block in 41 minutes during Tuesday's 116-113 overtime win against the Celtics. Holiday has been among the most well-rounded contributors in the league. Through 43 appearances, he is one of eight guys (along with James Harden, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Chris Paul, and DeMarcus Cousins) to be averaging 18 points, five dimes, four boards, and 1.5 steals per game. Moreover, Holiday sits second on that list in field-goal shooting (49.5 percent), so he has also been very efficient.

Ian Clark    SG  Pelicans

Clark had 15 points (7-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt), four rebounds, and one assist in 32 minutes during Tuesday's 116-113 overtime win against the Celtics. Clark followed up last Wednesday's 10-point performance with a pair of five-point outings. However, he earned a season-high minute total in Tuesday's overtime victory, receiving the nod to play late in the contest over starting point guard Rajon Rondo while Jrue Holiday assumed the lead ball handler responsibilities. Clark provides better spacing and defense than Rondo, and Holiday is a capable creator, so Pelicans' coach Alvin Gentry could turn to Clark more often during crunch time if he keeps producing.

Anthony Davis    PF  Pelicans

Davis exploded for 45 points (16-34 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 13-15 FT), 16 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal in 45 minutes during Tuesday's 116-113 overtime win against the Celtics. Davis has been dominant of late, averaging 43.0 points (on 56.3 percent shooting), 14.0 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 assists in 45.3 minutes over the last three games. The last two tilts both went to overtime, so that has been a factor. Nevertheless, Davis is clearly a threat to put up these numbers on any given night, and he has remained relatively healthy thus far in 2017-18.

Jrue Holiday    G  Pelicans

Jrue Holiday hit 9-of-16 shots, three 3-pointers and 2-of-4 free throws for 23 points, four rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block in 41 minutes of Tuesday's overtime win. Holiday's rolling right now, scoring at least 23 in three straight games with plenty of rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and 3-pointers, and he's played at third-round value on the season. Look for him to have another big night against the Hawks on Wednesday night.

Ian Clark    G  Pelicans

Ian Clark played 32 minutes and hit 7-of-10 shots and a 3-pointer for 15 points, four rebounds and one assist in Tuesday's exciting overtime win at Boston. The 15 points were the most he's scored in January, but he's worth keeping an eye on right now, averaging just under 26 minutes a game over his last four. He's not doing all that much with the sudden boost in playing time though, averaging just 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists over that stretch, without many steals or 3-pointers. Just put him on your watch list in deep leagues in case the minutes stick in the mid-20s going forward.

DeMarcus Cousins    F/C  Pelicans

DeMarcus Cousins hit 7-of-20 shots, 1-of-6 3-pointers and 4-of-6 free throws for 19 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, three steals, zero blocks and seven turnovers in Tuesday's 116-113 overtime in at Boston. Boogie wasn't all that efficient tonight and the seven turnovers, compared to just one for Anthony Davis, have been an issue all season. He's struggling with his shot right now, hitting just 11-of-36 over his last two games, but once they start falling again, look out. The 5.4 turnovers over his last five games are annoying and right on course, as he's averaging 5.0 per game on the season. Despite the negatives, he's playing at first-round value this season and his shot should start falling soon.

Anthony Davis    F/C  Pelicans

Anthony Davis hit 16-of-34 shots and 13-of-15 free throws for 45 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, a steal and two blocks in Tuesday's 116-113 overtime win at Boston, the third straight for the Pelicans. This wasn't a season-high performance for AD, as he went off for 48 points and 17 rebounds on Sunday against the Knicks. Davis has been crazy good for three straight games, as well as the whole season, and is averaging 43 points, 14 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 2.3 blocks over his last three. Unfortunately, he's also played 45, 50 and 41 minutes in each of those games and big minutes are not what AD's owners need from him. You have to wonder if there's a chance he sits on Wednesday night against the Hawks. The good news is he looks fully healthy and energized, and even rammed home a dunk after the buzzer as an exclamation point tonight.

Jameer Nelson    PG  Pelicans

Updating a previous report, Nelson (personal) is back with the Pelicans and will be available to play in Tuesday's matchup with the Celtics. Nelson missed the Pelicans' last game with a personal matter and was expected to remain sidelined Tuesday, though he's surprisingly rejoined the team quicker than expected. He'll be available off the bench and should operate as the primary backup to starter Rajon Rondo at point guard, which means less minutes will be available for fellow guard Ian Clark.

Jameer Nelson    G  Pelicans

Updating a previous item, Jameer Nelson (personal) is available to play Tuesday vs. Boston. Nelson did not play Sunday and was initially ruled out of Tuesday's contest. However, the Pelicans announced Tuesday evening that he is now back with the team. Yet, this has only a minimal fantasy impact, as Nelson is averaging just 12.6 minutes per game in January. He should be left on waivers.
