Suns News

Devin Booker    G  Suns

Devin Booker (hip) did not practice on Friday. There's a good chance he is not going to play against the Nuggets. Booker said he's taking it day by day, but he still hasn't ruled himself out for the 3-point contest. Not having a practice likely means he's out Saturday and there's a good chance he's out until the break. The arrival of Elfrid Payton shouldn't affect him negatively once he's back.

Isaiah Canaan    G  Suns

Isaiah Canaan will be waived. Basketball is a business, so the Suns will waive Canaan after he suffered his season-ending leg fracture on Jan. 29. He should be ready for camp and could have a chance at a roster spot.

Tyler Ulis    G  Suns

The Suns are expected to add a point guard at the deadline or in the buyout market, according to Arizona Sports 98.7's John Gambadoro. This could mean that Tyler Ulis (back spasms) could be out with his back spasms, or it could be that the Suns are just being cautious. They probably won't be giving up much, but you never know with the Suns. Either way, Ulis doesn't hold strong fantasy value right now.

Alex Len    C  Suns

Alex Len finished Wednesday's blowout loss with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 18 minutes off the bench. Len isn't hiding his discontent with his current role. He'd prefer to be a starter but said recently, "If I can be on a winning team ... coming off the bench to contribute, I'm willing to do that." As far as potential trade whispers heading into the Feb. 8 deadline, Len added, "I’ve heard nothing. It’s been quiet." He'll be an unrestricted free agent this summer and few teams will give up much to rent an off-injured 24-year-old center, but fantasy owners should still monitor him closely through the deadline. You never know.

Josh Jackson    F  Suns

Josh Jackson launched a team-high 17 shot attempts on Wednesday, making six of them to finish with 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 33 minutes. Suns coach Jay Triano admitted the obvious, saying the Spurs "walked all over" his team tonight, but added, "I don't think it was a lack of effort. They made shots and we didn't." That can be interpreted as a vote of confidence in guys like Jackson, T.J. Warren, Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss, who played big minutes with even bigger negative net ratings. Efficiency is a big concern for Jackson in category-based leagues, but minutes and usage should be plentiful down the stretch.

Josh Gray    G  Suns

Josh Gray played 31 minutes on Wednesday, scoring nine points on 4-of-16 shooting with seven assists, four rebounds and four steals. Tyler Ulis (back spasms) left early tonight. Devin Booker (hip, ribs) wasn't available. Isaiah Canaan (ankle) is done for the season. The Suns had to turn somewhere, and that turned out to be Gray, a 24-year-old who was called up from the G League last week and found himself at the wrong end of a historically lopsided loss tonight. There is a glaring hole in the Suns' backcourt, but owners should leave Gray on the wire outside of very deep leagues.

Marquese Chriss    F  Suns

Marquese Chriss started at center for the Suns on Wednesday, scoring seven points (1-of-7 FGs, 5-of-7 FTs) with 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 29 minutes. This game was hard to watch and the Suns lost by 48 points, so there's not a lot to glean. Tyson Chandler (neck) was out tonight and is an obvious trade candidate, and Chriss' owners should just hold tight and hope for the best as the Feb. 8 trade deadline passes. Despite recent trade whispers, it sounds like he'll stay in Phoenix. "I think it’s highly unlikely we move a member of our young core," GM Ryan McDonough said. "We believe in Marquese, we like his talent, we like his potential."
